Will ice help? My face is in agony

I get pretty bad acne (still at 29)! I woke up this morning to a horrendous feeling of pressure in my face. Just checked the mirror and yet again the tiny tiny spot by the side of my nose that appeared yesterday afternoon has quadrupled in size and got friends.. it's now the size of a 50p piece under the skin, I can feel it with my tongue indie music mouth it's that big.

It has no head! It will in a few days probably have 6 heads but right now it's just a ton of pressure.

Can I put mag sulphate on my face to draw it out? Or is that a stupid idea? Would ice take away the pain a bit ? Sad

Personally I would put a warm flannel over it to try to draw it. I wouldn’t squeeze it as it may become infected. Also maybe a medicated cream of some sort might help.

BitOfFun · 12/07/2020 04:46

I know it doesn't help right now, but have you asked your GP for a dermatology referral, or considered paying privately for one? It could change everything.

myfaceis · 12/07/2020 04:55

Yes I have just asked my gp to help. We have online access. It is horrendous. It's right by my nose bastard thing!

It it does look sore, you poor thing.

fallfallfall · 12/07/2020 05:06

Almost looks like a cold sore.

myfaceis · 12/07/2020 05:28

@fallfallfall it's not it's a giant spot, it's by my nose for some reason I'm guessing hormonal I get them every month starts as a little red bump and then just gets massive, until my next period but it's obviously getting sore as I've literally only just finished my period! I'm also getting massive cysts in my hair line round my neck which are delightful

I think you need Fucidin cream and a course of antibiotics, hopefully they will get back to you tomorrow.

Have you tried ibuprofen to take the swelling down?

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2020 10:37

I’ve had them like that before I took roaccutane. You can use the mag sulpha but apart from that only antibiotics are going to get rid of that.

Acne like that is a very deep infection, it’s pressing on the nerves right down in your dermis which is why it’s so sore & the infection is spreading under the skin.

Don’t press on it, you’ll spread it further. I know it’s hard because I’ve been there but don’t mess with it because they scar so easily and I’ve still got red scars from three years ago which I’m treating now.

How far have you got with the Dr?.

myfaceis · 12/07/2020 16:40

It's Sunday so probably won't get a response until tomorrow:( it errupted into 7 heads over night oak I got a hot cloth on it and it kind of drained but it really does hurt so I might leave it.

My go to rememdy for this a really hot flannel poultice followed by anusol and 400 mgs of ibuprofen.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2020 16:44

That’s a bad infection you’ve got there.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2020 16:46

Is there an out of hours near you?.

QuestionableMouse · 12/07/2020 16:49

I found the gel plasters amazing when I had a nasty deep spot on my face. Helped to pull out all the nasty stuff.

I'd also try a cold flannel to reduce some of the inflammation. I think ice will only make things worse.

myfaceis · 12/07/2020 16:51

Yes I think this does need something to stop it. Not entirely sure what as I'm pretty sure this is hormonal, I've been on roaccutane 3 times I'm not even sure they'll prescribe it again!

The swelling is about the size of a £2 piece now which is delightful

Did they do a short course of roaccutane or a long low dose? I’ve heard anecdotally long low doses don’t work as well.

I was on it 4 months and one of the clinic nurses had taken it 3 times.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2020 18:07

www.zwivel.com/accutane/how-many-times-can-you-go-accutane

A post halfway down explains how many mg/kg you need to hit cumulatively for it to work.

I was on 40mg a day weighing 51kg so I actually didn’t hit min dose but she reckoned I’d had enough to do the trick and to go back to dermatology if it came back for another course.

myfaceis · 12/07/2020 18:25

That's actually really helpful thank you!!

No advice I'm sorry but I suffer from exactly the same thing, currently sporting this beauty, it's agony. The GP has prescribed me 3 different topical medications, obviously not working Sad. Time to ring again tomorrow.

I hope you get sorted soon.

How is it looking this morning?.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2020 16:39

@myfaceis Has the dr helped you?.

SinkGirl · 14/07/2020 16:45

I’m getting exactly the same at the moment in the same areas. Just over a week into a course of lymecycline (antibiotics), no improvement yet, still getting new ones but it is all a little less painful

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/07/2020 19:06

Are you on the contraceptive pill? I found that one particular one made me very prone to these, and since stopping it I haven't had any more.

myfaceis · 15/07/2020 07:46

Not on the pill no. It tends to flare up either side of my period which is delightful!!

My gp was lovely and has represcribed antibiotics and this disgusting roll on called zinerit.

Me and Zinerit go way back! My acne started when I was 8 and I had this roll on for year it peels your skin away and I dropped it on the floor once and it bleached the carpet! The carpet stain is still there in my parents house! I was the youngest patient in the UK to have roaccutane at the time I had to have a professor oversee my treatment, as I think I was 10 or 11.

He also has referred me to a dermatologist because they're all so big underneath but the wait is long so we need to do something Now.
