Changing rooms closed

So I’ve been shopping at a large shopping centre twice in two weeks with separate kids.

Both wanted clothes but couldn’t try them on because the changing rooms are closed.

We live pretty far from the shopping centre; it’s not easy to return goods.

So we tried them on in the toilets and returned them. Is this really a better and more hygenic alternative than just opening changing rooms?

@CountessFrog

(And why on earth the pop socks? It’s a respiratory disease).
It’s always been standard to try on shoes with pip socks.
FlamingoAndJohn · 11/07/2020 11:14

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander

How thick were the pop socks that they actually made a difference Confused

You can see if trousers fit your waist by wrapping the waist band (buttons done up) around your neck. My DC never try trousers on in the shop anymore.

But it’s my arse that’s the problem.

@CountessFrog

Can I not shop locally? Well my local shopping centre doesn’t have the shops my kids want, so not really.

The sandals/pop socks issue was about the fit, not the aesthetics. Without pop socks they had harsh edges and I knew they would rub.

It may well be grim to try on shoes without pop socks, but there’s no way all shops provide them. Marks and Spencer sell loads of shoes and they don’t have an assistant on hand with pop socks. You are being a bit naive if you think people never do this.

They always have baskets of pop socks. I’m amazed this is news to you.

Wow! Do some of you not realize that there's a pandemic going on?

It may be inconvenient that changing rooms are closed, but it must be cutting down a lot of trying things on, and it makes returns easier to manage. This is for your safety! Get used to it.

Pop socks have always been a requirement for trying on shoes when you have bare feet. Nothing to do with Covid. Would you really want to try on sandals that someone with a foot disease had already tried on? Yeaugh!

@hampstead1234

If you've been in a 45 minutes Primark queue, it's not whether you need to use a toilet that is a concern, it's that you have queued for such tat.
Are you a goady fucker or just an all out snob with your head stuck up your own arse? Its hard to tell 🤔

FUCK!!! Why has it not been more widely advised?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 11/07/2020 11:33

Certainly for tops or straightforward waist things measure an item you already have from seam to seam and take a tape measure to check sizing before you buy. I get that you still may not like it on or for things like jeans the fit may be concern but taking a set of item / body measurements will give a better indication as to whether something is going to fit.

Trying shoes on with bare feet is rank coronavirus or not. Lots of shoe shops asked you to wear socks when trying shoes on pre-Covid
BananaPop2020 · 11/07/2020 11:35

@Jaxhog but refusing to allow people to use changing rooms has resulted in people using public loos to try clothes, and also forced return trips to stores to exchange or refund unsuitable items. Which do you think is the more desirable choice?

feelingfragile · 11/07/2020 11:35

Pretty sure that on one of the existing threads about this, someone said that if stuff is returned it's stored before being put out again as opposed to going straight back out so it's an infection control thing

BananaPop2020 · 11/07/2020 11:35

@Pertella 😂😂

You don't need clothes if you're staying at home!!!1!111!!!!

Soph88888 · 11/07/2020 11:39

This is such a good idea, thank you for sharing! I'm heavily pregnant and needed a few bits but have been uncomfortably squeezing myself into too small clothes as I cant face 2 trips, but its the same as trying them at home.. well less hygienic realy in a toilet but I'm definitely going to do this

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2020 11:47

We have mandatory mask wearing in shops.
Apart from that - changing rooms and toilets are open and cleaned regularily. I yesterday went and tried lots of jeans in different shops to find two that fit. I could go into the office wearing my old pair with my backside on show, but I decided I'd rather not.

Ordering online only to find that the stuff doesn't fit, is shoddily made and the colour looks different from the picture is just not worth it.

But I'm not staying at home. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 11/07/2020 14:57

The trousers around the neck thing isn't perfect, but it works for children, especially pre puberty. It works for my mum and me too. Shes average height and slim. I'm short and round with a huge arse.

Ginfordinner · 11/07/2020 15:29

Please can you explain the trousers round the neck properly. Necks are much smaller than waists.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 11/07/2020 15:38

Like this. Mine overlap by about an inch and I wear my jeans on the loose side. DS1s only just meet and he likes them tight.
The woman in this photo probably cant do those jeans up.

But don't you know there's a pandemic Shock
SamSeabornforPresident · 11/07/2020 21:22

I'd heard a rumour.

Justtakeatowel · 11/07/2020 22:15

It's a pain as I've got stuff to take back.

My children have each grown 3 inches over lockdown so nothing fits them anymore! We had to go shopping to try and get a few bits as they are just uncomfortable in clothing they have at home. Not that there was much worth buying in the shops but we've managed to get a few things to tide us over!

CountessFrog · 11/07/2020 22:56

Are you named at home then, you know, in your pandemic?
