What to send to friend who has just had a baby?

My best friend had a baby a few days ago, and I think the birth was quite traumatic although thankfully all is ok now. Have been in contact with her and she sounds happy but also quite overwhelmed as obviously lots of people are wanting to visit them ASAP!

I’m planning not to get in touch much over the next few days as I think she wants some time with her DP and their beautiful baby to just get settled. But I’d love to send something for them, just to show I’m thinking of them Smile

What would people recommend?

I was sent cakes in a tin from Betty’s of Harrogate, best surprise parcel ever.

moofolk · 10/07/2020 14:41

Cake is a great idea.

Uber Eats will show you good bakeries near where your friend lives and you can get them delivered.

A friend did this for me on my birthday it was great.

Yy to cake!

After I had my baby a friend sent a parcel of useful baby things that other people probably wouldn’t buy, like baby cup, plates, bibs, muslins, pram toys etc. I really appreciated it.

Another friend turned up one evening at my front door and passed me a roasting tray filled with hot freshly roasted chicken, roast potatoes and veg. Best present ever!

My "mum friends" sent me a hamper of pamper bits, some flowers & mini bottle of prosecco. Hamper was from etsy I think, included.bubble bath, chocolate, forget me not seeds, face mask and some other bits. Made me cry (in a good way)

Food! Or an Uber wars/Deliveroo voucher so there’s always an option if she’s just too tired/overwhelmed to cook.

Nixen · 10/07/2020 14:44

Don’t buy her flowers is a great website for this.

Or yes- food! I would have loved anyone who sent me food

Waiting42021 · 10/07/2020 14:45

Glad I was already thinking along the right lines with food Grin

I was wondering whether to get some nice bakery treats delivered like cookies/brownies or cake.

I would love to take them some homemade food round but I’m about an hour’s drive away. I’m hoping to pop round in the next couple of weeks so I will definitely take some food parcels with me!

Food food food

Pop to M&S and pick her up some lovely foodie bits like pre cut fresh fruit, ready meal, snacking food, bottle of wine and leave it on her doorstep.

I had a baby in April and this was by far the best thoughtful gift I got and I will make sure I do the same again for my friends.

But you might have already eaten :o

A good coffee/tea flask with a lid.
For those late night feeding sessions.
Nice moisturiser for her.
Zip up baby grows.
A soothing facepack.
A foot massager.
Some nice PJ's or loungewear or a lovely dressing gown.
Slippers.
Digital photo frame.
I got a bottle of perfume which was lovely.
Everything is usually for baby and it was nice that someone though of me (after over 50 hours of friggin' labour and emergency C-section) I was the one in need of treats.

kenandbarbie · 10/07/2020 15:07

I was actually really happy to receive flowers and a balloon that said 'it's a boy', I always wanted one of those!!! Food and baby things were good too. I got LOADS of outfits and teddies, they were my least favourite gifts if I had to choose.

Sunbird24 · 10/07/2020 15:12

I put together a ‘hamper’ in a nappy caddy sort of thing. Book each for mum, dad and baby, assorted yummy snacks for parents (and cat), two insulated cups with spill proof lids, some organic toiletries for mum & baby, and the hungry caterpillar baby sleep spray that has really good reviews.

A robe or kimono from onehundredstars.co.uk

'Cook' vouchers- best ever present for new parents

20viona · 10/07/2020 15:19

Mail order brownies!

reluctantbrit · 10/07/2020 15:19

Cook vouchers, best ready meals in my opinion and as most can be done from frozen no forward thinking necessary.

2 decent travel mugs, don’t forget the dad

For the baby I would go for baby books, it is never too early to have books for them.

Starisnotanumber · 10/07/2020 15:34

Slatterys of Whitefield near Manchester do mail order chocolates cakes etc plus hampers of you want to spend a bit more.
They do a large bar of their own chocolate with a new baby congratulations and they deliver.
