Absolute bargain if you haven't got one.

My Kenwood Chef has been in frequent use for over 30 years.

CoveredInBeeeees · 10/07/2020 13:36

Been thinking of getting my first stand mixer recently so very happy! Would prefer cream but hardly going to argue at that price.

I bought a £100 Kenwood a couple of years ago and it was useless - the attachment didn't reach all round the bowl so I kept having to stop it and mix it myself which defied the purpose.

In the end I gave it away. But I do wish I had one to bake cakes.

Shall I go for this one?

rosegoldwatcher · 10/07/2020 13:38

They are brilliant.
I have forwarded the link to my son - he is a keen home baker like me.

Thanks OP

It’s supposed to be better than the Kitchen Aid - it’s got a great rep. I did some sort of ‘what mixer suits your needs’ quiz just last week on a random (but independent, IIRC) website and it came out with the kMix so I’m chuffed as. Mainly after it for dough here.

Thanks, OP, may invest. My mother's kenwood chef is older than me, and I'm in my 40s!

rosegoldwatcher · 10/07/2020 13:47

Warning - just looked at the Amazon reviews - several complaints about a very fragile plastic ring that attaches the bowl to the machine.

Stopyourmessingaround · 10/07/2020 14:18

I'd be wary of the glass bowl version. Bowl is very heavy and there's a plastic ring to connect bowl. Mine split within about six months. Managed to exchange it with JL for the metal bowl version, which is much better.

GirlCalledJames · 10/07/2020 14:25

Mine is still going strong after 8 years of frequent use.

EnterNight · 10/07/2020 15:41

I shall post what I posted on the other thread.

Mine lasted two years before the arm lift broke. These are nothing like the kenwood mixers of old. A bit style over substance really. I wouldn’t have another, I replaced mine with my MIL’s 1970s one and I’ll swear it’s bombproof.

EraOfTheGrey · 10/07/2020 15:48

I had a KMix and it struggled with just 500g of bread dough. Mine bounced across the worktop and smashed to the floor, mind you it still works to this day (I gave it to my sister). I'd say it was good enough for cakes but struggles with the heavier doughs.

Knittedfairies · 10/07/2020 15:49

Now that's a tad annoying; my cream kMix was delivered on Sunday!

DH Have to say I’ve experienced the same before mine died. I was expecting really great things from it but it did bounce about with dough.

The telling thing for me was that bake off used the kitchen aid for years then went to k mix. By the next season they were back on kitchen aid.

I've got this exact kmix. It was in the black Friday Amazon sales about 6 years ago (I may be wrongly saying I got it for £180). I use it a lot and have no issue with it for bread. I also have even noticed the plastic ring at the bottom of the bowl, let alone had an issue with it.
The bowl is very heavy though. Far too heavy for my kids to use and even I struggle to lift it high to scrape mix out into tin. But it goes happily in dishwasher regularly.

I haven't used it for another other than baking. But you can get other attachments, such as mincer.

*haven't even

EraOfTheGrey · 10/07/2020 15:59

EnterNight I now have a Kitchenaid and it doesn't struggle with doughs, pasta or batter. I even use mine to cream mash potatoes. The customer service for kitchenmaid is really good. I have a set of pasta rollers attachments and one broke and Kitchenaid sent me a replacement with no questions asked.

IamMaz · 10/07/2020 16:08

It's different from a Kenwood Chef.

Im happy with my 1970s kenwood chef now but if I did replace it I’d go for kitchen aid I think.

Telling I think when a 40 odd year old mixer knocks the spots off a new one.
