Beach tips and tricks

It's going to be allowed soon where I am to head to the beach and public toilets will be open tomorrow. Parking allowed again.

As we can't go away I think we'll end up spending a few days at the beach. Safely and with appropriate social distancing etc. We know of a "secret beach" that is never very busy.

I didn't do this a lot when I was younger as we lived miles away from a beach so I have no routines or tips or hacks to survive a beach day!

DS almost 14. DD is 10.

What tips/tricks/routines/hacks would you suggest to make it "easier"

I know about the baby powder one!

The DC have wetsuits and body boards.

I hate ending up with sand everywhere!

Thanks.

Frozen water bottles.
IKEA lge blue bag for all clobber
Beach shelter not expensive useful for hanging, keeping stuff sand free
Beach shoes (lidl this week) useful if stony beach
Hats, sunglasses, suncream

Take the minimum amount possible.

Search ‘fitted sheet beach’ on google images. It’s a genius idea!
Take along a bag for litter so you don’t have to take unnecessary trips to the bin. Take another bag for wet swimming clothes and towels.
Put sun cream in a ziplock bag (or similar) in case it leaks.
Freeze your drinks
Take spare towels to sit on for the car journey home!
Make a mental note (or one on your phone) of when everyone applies sun cream so you know when to reapply. Apply sun cream before you get onto the sand!
Grab alarge bucket, fill it with water and half bury it in the sand by your cooler. Designate it the “hand washing” bucket which all sandy-fingered children (and adults!) must use before accessing the cooler.

See some genius ideas already! If you do something lots you develop routines. Thanks. Keep me coming.

Is it worth taking a bowl/big bucket for washing the beach shoes? We bought them already at Lidl and they've been in use this week but stink now.

I rinsed off the wetsuits in the washing machine. Was that awful? (They'd been rinsed at the beach too)

Take a bin bag and TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME

vanillandhoney · 10/07/2020 13:58

Take spare bags so anything wet and sandy can go in the bags before you get back into the car.
Spare towels to keep in the car - ideal for getting sand off feet etc.
Freeze your drinks.
Bring a spade to dig a hole for a bucket - bucket can have water in it which will help keep your drinks cold.
Suncream on before you even get on the beach. Ideally before you even set off from the house to allow it time to absorb properly, and so it doesn't stick to everything!

Coins in case you have to pay for toilets/parking. Also coins/cash so you can buy ice-creams etc as lots of mobile businesses like that won't take cards.

I always take rubbish home and extra that we find. I operate a "leave the place better than you found it" policy.

What's the baby powder one?

sidsidsid · 10/07/2020 14:13

We live right by the sea. Talcum powder is a must for getting sand off the kids legs and feet before putting shoes back on/getting in the car. J

Thanks! That's a great tip

Thanks. Good to hear. It's @Ricekrispie22 who needs reminding Smile
