If you had a time machine....

This thread is purely for fun as I'm sick of reading about negativity at the mo.

So, if you had a time machine and could go to any year, what would it be and why? It can be any in your living memory, or even further back if you like. It can be the future if you want.

I'll go first. Hmmmm 1996. Ultimately my favourite year. Life as ten year old was great. 3 lions on a shirt, girl power, brit pop, an awesome summer holiday in Devon. Life felt absolutely positive and a lot more optimistic back then.

That's my go anyway...

Haha, bizarrely I have considered starting a very similar thread.

To go back to a personal happy time, that would probably have to be sometime in the 70s when I was a child - such fun and freedom!
Or the eighties as a teen - great music and hairspray!

Or more experimentally, to the late Victorian period for a visit. The Victorian era is my spiritual home.

1990 - 1992, first couple of years of university. Had the time of my life!

Crispsnatcher · 09/07/2020 19:20

HPLikecraft - I wish I had been a teen in the 80s. I love the fashion and everything.

Also, yes to the Victorian period. I love it too.

I reckon I would have like to be around in the swinging 60s also.

1990
I was 18 and with love of my life.
We knew each other from age 11 until we were in our mid 30s.

Crispsnatcher · 09/07/2020 19:21

Aww that's so cute @kitty

2008, best year of my life! Had so much fun as a singleton, no responsibilities, no money worries and met my future dh.

I have always fantasised about going back in time to see dinosaurs, the really massive ones. Just for a minute, of course, and then get the hell out of there. Grin

iklboo · 09/07/2020 19:28

1920s. I'd want to be a Bright Young Thing and go to flapper parties.

Crispsnatcher · 09/07/2020 19:30

Haha Aquamarine. Jurassic Park goes wrong, just remember that Wink

My first year in college maybe. It was such a great time - made friends I still have to this day, suddenly became visible to boys and noticed them after years in an all-girls school, had my first proper boyfriend who was seriously cute, did really well in my classes. lovely year and the first year I really felt I was on my way in my adult life and it was the right life for me.

The year I met dh was also lovely

Great thread!

I’d only go back to 2016, I finished my degree, got married and had an amazing honeymoon in the Maldives all in the space of about 3 months.

2020 seems a bit shit in comparison to be honest.

Craftycorvid · 09/07/2020 19:40

Can I have two trips in the TARDIS, please? First one to 1987 - specifically the high street and the era of really good clothes in TopShop, Dorothy Perkins and Chelsea Girl. I’d obviously have my present day spending power and would enjoy a spree before trying on all the perfume testers and the Monet jewellery in Debenhams Grin.

Second trip - January 1986 to waylay my younger self and explain to her that it would be a good idea to say ‘no thanks’ to the lad who is about to ask her out, and to tell her that being chubby and plain doesn’t mean she should say ‘yes’ to any relationship on offer, especially an unhealthy one.

happymummy12345 · 09/07/2020 19:42

I'd go back to 2015. I got engaged, married and had a baby all within 8 months that year. By far the best year of my life.

Bunowen81 · 09/07/2020 19:49

I’d go back to the late 1970s and talk to my Grandma and her sisters about their childhood and parents. I’ve been researching our family history and have so many questions I wish I’d asked them when I was younger.

On the way back I’d stop off sometime in the 90s and spend a day with my dad. I really miss him.

Crispsnatcher · 09/07/2020 19:54

As many trips in the TARDIS as people like. Some fantastic responses here.

August 1881. I'm a family history nut, my great grandmother was abandoned as a baby and I'd love to find out who she really was. I don't want to see any part of my life, it's boring.

PajamasnoDramas · 09/07/2020 20:07

I’d head back to summer of 1995, great summer working in Kent, plenty of time on the beach - that was a warm summer.
Then 1996, in all one of my best years.
And finally off to New York in the 1970s, mainly for the people watching and general vibe (and seediness of some parts), before they cleaned it up in 80’s and 90’s.

Crispsnatcher · 09/07/2020 20:20

1995 was a fantastic year too, Pajamas. Definite fond memories for me.
