Who to book a UK cottage break with?

I'd like to use a company that has treated customers fairly during the covid lockdown etc; no making up new rules/laws like the airline that we booked our summer holiday with.

TIA

NOT original cottages/Suffolk cottage company.

Don’t go anywhere near Sykes. Worst company I’ve ever dealt with.

Not Rural Retreats!

Where do you want to go?

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2020 18:12

Anyone who has a vacancy

I have always had a positive experience with under the thatch but they are mostly Wales so would limit you somewhat (although we LOVE Wales!)

Cool stays also has some great stuff although the website and pricing can be annoying.

Thanks for the ones to avoid!

@joyjester maybe the Lake District or possibly West Coast Scotland?

Looking at Sept/Oct.

Thanks, we love Wales too but (our last break was Anglesey) but would like to go somewhere different.

Avoid Sykes or any other owned by a big plc.

Pre Covid but we had a good experience with Lakeland Retreats in the Lakes

Many cottages are available through several agents and sometimes the owners own website too. It is usually fairly easy to track them down on the web.

I'd say go for a contract direct with the owners if you can. No intermediary taking a cut and causing issues of their own.

Airbnb were fair to both hosts and guests.

cottages.com had really poor communication during the lockdown and took £800 off my credit card even though I had written twice (with no response) cancelling the holiday and forfeiting the deposit. I did eventually get a refund but that took many hours of my time to achieve.
