Are there any leaders on here worried about returning (if that is possible) in September? I'm on a few local Facebook groups for guiding and I'm starting to see other leaders frustrated at the lack of guidance from HQ about how to return safely. But I am worried about returning (not because I am worried about the virus, as I know schools etc... are back) but more because if one of the girls or other leader's test postive then I'd have to take 2 weeks off work to self isolate. I can't really afford to do this for a volunteer thing! And I am a keen volunteer normally!

I think the lack of guidance currently is a good sign. The Scouts have released loads of guidance, which may or may not end up being needed and has largely confused people. I hope Guiding are waiting until they have a better idea of what’s going to happen before they release anything.

Thanks for your response @MrsFionaCharming
This person was moaning that we've had no guidance but the scouts have and that scouts are doing social distance meets in parks?! I miss them a lot but I have to put my job before brownies.

The problem is that they can't deliver any concrete guidance without the government letting us know when/how we can go back. They would only be able to guess at what will happen, and that wouldn't really help anyone.

Our district are all doing zoom meetings (bar one pack which has low numbers of girls) and last I heard this was to continue for the foreseeable. We have a district meeting next week where we might have an update but really it all depends on the halls where we gather and any guidance released by HQ. Not expecting to meet up really until next year but that's just my view.

Oh yes of course. My post wasn't about the lack of guidance at all. My post is about me not wanting to go back if it means potentially 2 weeks off work. I was wondering if others felt the same?!

Thanks @applepineapple
We have done zoom too. I am happy for that to continue too!

I think whether you’d have to take 2 weeks off will depend on gov guidance at the time. But if that is the case, Guiding can’t force you to resume face to face meetings, and the parents can’t blame you for not risking it.

Yetiyoga · 09/07/2020 17:19

Yes I guess so. Thanks for the input

The Scouting Programme is more outdoorsy anyway. With Beavers, it should be roughly 50% related to outdoor activities. I hate admitting it but I prefer it to the Brownie death by activity cards UMAs (I was a Brownie Leader first)

Neither my Scouting nor Guiding units are speculating about returning.

The Culture Secretary has just announced returns to sport over the next few weeks so that is a positive step in the right direction

This is from the most recent email from Girlguiding in case you missed it - it might be sooner than September we’re allowed to meet.

But thank you for pointing out the work issue. I saw the email and thought “great! Can’t wait to get back to meeting in person”, but actually, I also can’t risk needing to take 2 weeks off :/
