Is you child's school offering before and after school care in Setember?

I'm curious to see if other schools are planning to offer before and after school clubs in September.

If yes, have they made you aware of any changes or adjustments to the way it usually operates?

If no, have they explained why not?

Yes our school are, both the school I work out and the one my children attend.
No changes have been notified, although the staff will be selective about what equipment the children will be allowed out ie no Lego or any toys which can be shared.

The latest DFE guidance encourages before/after school clubs to open.

Yes. DS starts school in September and I asked about it as we need to use after school club. Only change is they're not planning on offering ad hoc care for a while like they used to, just set days and possible limiting of numbers. They said they will get it back to normal as soon as they can. Assume it's to do with mixing guidelines and staffing etc.

Outdoor play is the first option. Netflix is the next option. Chn will be encouraged to bring their pencil Case from class for colouring.
Gizlotsmum · 09/07/2020 07:43

Just had an email asking about requirement for breakfast club. Will need to pre book and limited spaces.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/07/2020 07:43

Yes, our school are though I'm not sure how it will work.

Ickabog · 09/07/2020 07:45

IgnoranceIsStrength - Fingers crossed they're running.

TrustTheGeneGenie - No ad hoc care makes sense, as does limiting the numbers. I hope your son enjoys school come September. Smile

Yes. We got the email yesterday. Asked to prebook (as ever). Numbers might be reduced or bubbles formed. Priority to children of key workers.

trilbydoll · 09/07/2020 07:46

Our wraparound is operated by an external company. They're running summer clubs and they are fully expecting to run wraparound in September although they have not ironed out the finer details yet.

Bollss · 09/07/2020 07:47

Thank you @Ickabog Smile

Outdoor play sounds great, but Netflix and colouring sounds like it will be a very boring environment. I'm surprised parents would be happy to pay for that. When you said limiting the toys I wasn't expecting no toys at all. Shock

Gizlotsmum Pre booking and limited numbers seems like a common theme.

Priority to children of key workers.

That's interesting, and has the potential to be quite divisive. Will the key workers only have priority on the days they're at work, or any day. Also what criteria are they using to determine key workers?

The 3rd sector org that delivers ours is finding it tough to get a seat at the table with the council and school. In Scotland so the Govt won't confirm school return until 30/7 then they go back 11/8. All of this was announced very last minute at the end of term so schools haven't been able to plan their own stuff let alone engage with other groups. It's a mare.

DD is in 5 days a week so it'd usually be a major problem. "Luckily", I've just been told I'm being made redundant. 😥

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/07/2020 08:13

Our school don't have before/after school care but the nursery (10 minutes walk away) are already back providing their wraparound care & the walking bus that goes with it Smile they're able to operate the normal provision over the summer too. The benefits of an almost brand new building that was built with lots of outdoor space & large airy rooms & some spares.

passthemustard · 09/07/2020 08:25

Our after school club is running until 4.30pm only. Kids have to go every day, booked in advance. No adhoc bookings.

notheragain4 · 09/07/2020 08:26

Yes, adjustments not been discussed.

Ickabog · 09/07/2020 08:42

I'm really sorry to hear that Blankiefan Sad

They're very lucky to have lots of space and big rooms.

passthemustard What time did they used to open until?

My understanding is that they have to try and keep them in year groups or groups of 6 which won’t be possible in ours as so small. Very worried about this but no official word from our club yet.

Can I ask where you read groups of 6?

No

PinkFondantFancy · 09/07/2020 08:47

Wow my school hasn't even bothered to tell me if my kids will be allowed through the hallowed gates in September, let alone whether there will be wraparound. I find it staggering how they're all reading the same guidance and come to such strikingly different conclusions/communication speeds

bilbotoy · 09/07/2020 08:49

I didn't really use the after school club but liked the activity clubs eg football, coding. My eldest dc is now coming home at 3.15 & is not really tired enough.

Herja · 09/07/2020 08:49

DCs school is offering only when absolutely needed, for paid employment.

Which is a bit of a kicker as I'm doing a degree, which doesn't count (not paid) and previously my 81 year old grandfather collected from school one day and dropped off one day for me. I'm not allowing him to keep doing this (he did it because he enjoyed it, but we don't feel it's safe to continue), so I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet... keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best for now! There's only one childminder who will do after/before care at the school, nearly everyone has a SAH parent or works shifts, despite it being a busy, inner city school. I'm a bit fucked.

Letseatgrandma · 09/07/2020 08:49

Our breakfast/after school club won’t be running-The staff that we had have running it have left and we haven’t been able to replace them.
