how to approach noisey neighbours

so I live in a block of flats that to be fair arent built the best! Ive been here over 18 months & the problem has only started withit the last 10-14 days. And its the same people that have loved above me the whole time.

THEY CONSTANTLY BANG ABOUT. and I dont mean i can hear there footsteps I mean its from 7am and currently still going on just now, its as if they are running on the spot or throwing things off the floor. They are an older couple and their grandchild visits often however we know it's because shes you g when the noise starts and most of the time its bearable so we let it slide (shes about 12/13 for reference).

The problem is they are thumping about constantly that its waking DD (who is 2) up a few times a night and during the day will ask what the noise is and when we tell her its upstairs banging she then bangs about making too much noise that below us will have there ceiling lights shaking too.

I suck at confronting people and to be honest don't know how i'd approach it.

I know you said you don't like confrontation but honesty is the best policy - if you confront it straight on then you know you've voiced your concerns to them. I would call up to their flat when you hear the noise and just say that they are making an awful loud noise, is everything ok? And then make a joke and say 'thought someone was going to come through my ceiling'.. then maybe follow by I've been concerned the past couple of days it's been quite loud to the point of waking my daughter.

Hopefully they aren't thick and get the message. If the noise continues after that I would keep calling and just tell them they are waking your daughter it's really not necessary to be making that amount of noise.

If all else fails, I would contact your local council for noise disturbance outside of sociable hours (keep a log of what time the noise starts and ends etc)

I really feel your pain; I had nightmare noisy neighbours and it really starts to consume you as you can't relax with elephants walking upstairs.

I hope you get it sorted OP 💐

I ended up going up to their door around 23:30 last night as i had enough but I knocked there door and they never answered even when I waited about for a bit but then the noise did stop after about 15 mins so I am unsure if I should go up again or not, it has been wuiet all morning so far xx
