Please tell me where I can buy some as the want for this is driving me mad (and I'm not even pregnant!)
Many thanks in advance

I always used to get mine from Percy Ingle's growing up- do you have one of those nearby? Usually in a pack of 2 or 4.

CatToddlerUprising · 08/07/2020 22:13

I’ve seen them in Greggs, but not sure if they do a reduced menu with them on now. If not, they’re easy to make - www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/610608/recipe/london-cheesecake

MPForFlydaleNorth · 08/07/2020 22:13

Percy Ingle are great for these - and Tottenham cake! I heard a week or so ago that they are closing down, so stock up! I had an inferior copy from Aldi if you aren't near an Ingles

BBC Good Food has a great recipe--it takes two days, though, and threatened to overflow my small food processor. Watching with interest!

exhaustedtomato · 08/07/2020 22:43

Aldi sell them

Itsallpointless · 08/07/2020 22:49

Second Aldi..99p for a 2 pack!

katy1213 · 08/07/2020 23:05

I think Percy Ingle are closing down. Shame because they're such a lovely old-fashioned bakery.

hopingtobedally · 08/07/2020 23:09

They don't have them in my aldi maybe it's regional

Gutted to hear Percey Ingles are closing, they remind me so much of going to visit my family who lived in the East End as a kid and going shopping down Roman Road on a Saturday. Very nostalgic!

Violetroselily · 08/07/2020 23:40

I think my Co Op does them in the bakery. Not their own brand, but a different fresh range.

7ofNine · 08/07/2020 23:51

I've never heard of this before. Looking at the recipe, I don't think it's like any cheesecake I know!

Dillydallyingthrough · 08/07/2020 23:53

Percy Ingle and coop near me have them in london (this might be regional as never seen them anywhere else!)

june2007 · 09/07/2020 00:00

When I lived in London and Dagenham you could get it at GReggs.

ArriettyJones · 09/07/2020 00:05

That’s a really old fashioned, stodgy, cockney confection. I haven’t seen one in years. I can see why you’d struggle in these days of limited menus.

The BBC Good Food recipe looks pretty authentic to me. Bake some?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/07/2020 00:06

Mmmmm my favourite! I think I have all the ingredients to try making my own!

Ginfordinner · 09/07/2020 00:29

That brings back memories. I used to have an after school/Saturday job in Croydon in the 1970s, and I often used to buy one on the way to work from the bus stop.

Kbear · 09/07/2020 00:39

All Percy ingles shops are closing down sadly - read it in the evening standard

I bloody love a London cheese cake

goingtotown · 09/07/2020 00:49

Aldi.

Twolittlebears · 09/07/2020 01:05

Bagel shop on Brick Lane

I have just seen that Percy Ingle is closing down??? I am bereft, I have practically grown up with them!!

How on earth has this happenedConfused

It's not a cheesecake! It's puff pastry with jam topped with shredded coconut essentially. Don't believe nigella's "London cheesecake" recipe on google, that is definitely NOT a London cheesecake

It's a real shame, but I think they are struggling to compete with Greggs, and come to think of it, every Percy Ingles I can think of is right near a Greggs. It does feel like stepping back in time going to Percy Ingles, I will miss them
Itsallpointless · 09/07/2020 08:32

@MPForFlydaleNorth I see Percy as a bit of an upmarket Greggs, I certainly pay the extra for their stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I love Greggs, but well, losing Percy is like Woolworths all over again, another piece of my childhood wiped outSad

MPForFlydaleNorth · 09/07/2020 09:01

@itsallpointless I agree, and controversial opinion alert, their sausage rolls are superior to Greggs
