Well, shops are open, restaurants are open and trains are running so go this afternoon if you want to.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 08/07/2020 12:29

Museums aren't open round here, not until September apparently. Maybe I could take the DC to a garden centre instead and call it a plant museum?

FelicityPike · 08/07/2020 12:33

Yes.

homemadecommunistrussia · 08/07/2020 12:35

What do you mean "Yes"? Confused

you can now. Whether you think that is an appropriate risk is up to you.

rubyslippers · 08/07/2020 12:37

You can
Whether you would want to is a different matter
I live outside London and I’m in no hurry to get back on the tube and go to Oxford Circus to shop (where you can try anything on etc)
If you do go on public transport you have to wear a mask

rubyslippers · 08/07/2020 12:38

Sorry should have said can’t try anything on

Waiting42021 · 08/07/2020 12:40

You can.

We’re going to a city local to us this coming weekend for a walk followed by lunch in one of our favourite places. However, we are driving as we’re able to.

It’s up to you to assess the risk and decide if it’s worth it or not.

homemadecommunistrussia · 08/07/2020 12:45

I think it's the train that might be the stumbling block. We like to both have a pint and not to worry about parking.Sad

I have a free afternoon today and would love to get the train into the city and have a wander around the shops, a spontaneous thing I’d have done at the start of the year, but I just feel it’s too risky still. I miss being able to do that so much.

homemadecommunistrussia · 08/07/2020 14:35

Yep it's part of normal life for us, I don't use the car unless I really have to.

Are we officially allowed now? I know no-one would stop you if you did, but still unclear what the actual rules are around public transport for non-essential journeys.

MrsGrindah · 08/07/2020 14:57

There’s a gov campaign I saw last night ..Enjoy Summer Safely..so they are encouraging people to get out and about but within certain restrictions. But I think it’s a while yet before you can just pop in to a pub for a drink for example

JeffJarrett · 08/07/2020 15:02

Trains are totally fine. They have half the seats taped off to enable social distancing.

JeffJarrett · 08/07/2020 15:02

Sorry. Posted too quickly. More than half the seats are taped up.

FizzyPink · 08/07/2020 15:05

Sorry why can’t you just pop into a pub for a drink? Most around here are open now and desperate for business. As long as you wear a mask on the train go whenever you fancy

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2020 15:13

You can do it now. My DS's dad is a train driver, they're not bothered what people are using the trains for as long as you wear a mask.

Bbq1 · 08/07/2020 15:29

Me, dh and ds are going to our city tomorrow for a mooch round and maybe lunch. We're driving. Won't be clothes shopping and will follow all the sd rules etc but it will be nice to get out of our immediate area for the first time in months.Just go and take all the precautions necessary.

Yes just go, I have been on the train to London lots since shops reopened, appropriately masked etc and its been no problem. I have no fear of Covid but I understand not everyone feels like I do, but honestly it was fine. Was lovely and quiet!

ifonly4 · 08/07/2020 15:44

I was wondering about going into town tomorrow as I wanted some new t-shirts before lockdown. The problem is I'd have to get the bus so I'm torn - do I support the town centre shops (which I used to enjoy rather than online shopping) but sometimes I'd have to use the bus for a non essential . The buses only have a couple of people in the day, so I'm so tempted.

I’m going into London to the Tower of London this weekend and am very excited! I’ve been by train several times, but this will be my first underground train trip into London. I’m used to wearing a mask and carrying hand sanitiser with me. I think they’re slow to publicise non-essential travel by public transport in case they get swamped, but I imagine a lot will travel to London via train.

It’s scary the first time, but once you do, you’ll wonder why you worried

@Turnedouttoes All the pubs near me are by booking only
