Would you be able to inject yourself?

DH has to have daily injections. The District Nurse has been coming to do it but obviously they'd prefer he did it himself.

He really can't. I've done it today and will do them from now on but I'm not sure I could do it to myself.

Yes I did those blood thinning ones for a week after I had DS. It was fine

Castoreum · 07/07/2020 18:38

I did it for IVF. It was easy once I'd got the hang of it.

BertieBotts · 07/07/2020 18:38

I think no, but I suppose if you had to, you would get used to it.

DH did blood thinning ones after he broke his foot. I couldn't cope with being in the room when he did it!

MrsAvocet · 07/07/2020 18:38

Yes, I had to for months.
My insulin dependent Dad did it for many years.
You get used to it.

Dozer · 07/07/2020 18:39

Yes, and I have done for 6 months or so. Was fine.

If he has a true phobia there are approaches he could try. If it’s just squeamishness / preference, he should try to get over it!

SunbathingDragon · 07/07/2020 18:39

Yes and the more you do it, the easier it is.

TabbyStar · 07/07/2020 18:39

My 86 year old mum had to inject herself in the stomach, I'm not sure I'd want to do it but she didn't seem bothered!

Heatherjayne1972 · 07/07/2020 18:40

Yes it’s fine. I do it weekly to myself

I find it better not to think about it too much
Just choose a different site each time -my stomach seems to be the least uncomfortable area

TheBoots · 07/07/2020 18:40

Insulin-dependent gestational diabetes here...the first couple of times weren't easy but I got used to it!

Pipandmum · 07/07/2020 18:40

I do as I'm a type 1 diabetic. Needles are fine and short though. Needs must and all: if you have to, you do.

2155User · 07/07/2020 18:40

Yes. For 2 weeks after DS for blooding thinning

Queenfreak · 07/07/2020 18:40

Yip, ivf, and insulin dependent GD.
Hated the idea, but soon got used to it.

Saladd0dger · 07/07/2020 18:41

I did after giving birth. Gave friends theirs as well

Redruby25 · 07/07/2020 18:41

Yes had to do the blood thinning ones during pregnancy and then for a few weeks after too, wasn't nice and I realised how it must feel for those who have to do it all the time, I had a friend who was an insulin diabetic and she used to have to inject at least 3 times a day.

caramac04 · 07/07/2020 18:41

I inject myself once a week and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest
We’re all different though and some would understandably find it difficult.
Maybe with time he will get more relaxed and will be able to do it himself.
Sounds like early days.

Warminstermum · 07/07/2020 18:41

Yeah I have diabetes so have to. You get used to it, hard at first tho

Sunnydayshereatlast · 07/07/2020 18:42

Absolutely hate needles..
Managed 10 weeks after last 2 dc's births.
Felt quite proud!! .

APurpleSquirrel · 07/07/2020 18:42

No - I had to have the injections after having DS & was supposed to have them for 3 months or something.
I tried to do it myself - once managed to snap the needle & another time managed to somehow jam the thing so after that DH had to give them to me.

PMTRex · 07/07/2020 18:43

Yes, pregnancy related ones. And DP injects insulin several times a day- DS (8) does it for him sometimes as he's obsessed with wanting to be a vet and it's good practice apparently!?!

BadgeronaMoped · 07/07/2020 18:44

I had a course of the blood thinning ones too and really struggled with them, DH was itching to do it for me on the first morning! It felt very unnatural and I was never able to swiftly 'jab' myself though, I did it very slowly each time.

Floralnomad · 07/07/2020 18:44

I can , I don’t have to very often but it’s not an issue for me . My mum was an insulin dependent diabetic and she was quite resistant at first but even she got in the swing of it .

Ishihtzuknot · 07/07/2020 18:44

No I struggle to stab myself for blood sugar testing, couldn’t imagine injecting myself. If he has to do it daily it’s probably a good idea he learns unless you’re happy to do it long term.

JoyFreeCake · 07/07/2020 18:45

My partner needed blood-thinning ones.

The doctor turned to me and said, "Have you ever done an injection before?" I replied, "Only on a rat". He said "Great" and buggered off.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 18:45

Had to for the duration of my pregnancy due to a previous blood clot - so Innohep or something it was called. It's the one that bruises (blood thinning obviously), so I'd alternate sides of my bottom tummy and then thighs if I got too bruised. I don't remember it much so it can't have been that bad. You just pinched an inch of fat/tummy/thigh and injected.

FairfaxAikman · 07/07/2020 18:46

I did it after my CS and also there was a home-version of Depo provera that I used before low stocks meant I had to switch to an alternative
