Have you stayed at the Shangri-la at the Shard?

If so which room did you stay in? How was it?

We have one night for our honeymoon and was thinking g about spending it in one of the Shard hotel rooms.

We don't have tons of money but as we o it have one night we wanted it to be memorable.

It's ridiculously expensive and something we will only do once so don't want to make the wrong choice.

I know 2 couples who stayed there for their honeymoons. OMG, incredible. The views, the service!

I haven’t stayed there but FYI it is often a better deal to book high end hotels through a travel agent. If you look on the virtuoso website, you will see the list of benefits an agent can get you. As it’s only one night, early check in and late check out might be very useful to you.

We stayed in a Deluxe King with City View room for my husband’s 30th birthday & it was wonderful. Even the loo had a view! The pool is well worth it as well.

Would I spend £500 again? Debatable, but it’s my husband that’s into amazing hotels, not me.

I didn’t find the service memorable - we’ve been fortunate to stay in some lovely places & it was pretty so-so.

I've just booked to stay in it for my 30th. I can't afford a suite but I've booked a premier king room. Prices are good at the moment thanks to Covid, it was under £500.

Thanks for the tip about the Virtuosa website. Will have a look. We haven't booked it yet just because it's so much money it makes me hesitate. But then it's one night that we have sans kids. Only having a small wedding, less than 30 people. That was pre covid, not due to it Grin

It's deciding between the smaller room with 'iconic views' or the larger one with southern views which is bigger and seems to have more amenities. Only £30 between them.

Great idea about early check in and late check out, will look into it.

Thanks everyone Thanks

I've not started in the hotel but (pre COVID, pre baby) I spent far too much time in the various restaurants and bars at the Shard.

I'd say go for the South facing room with the great facilities, and admire the north facing view over drinks at Gong.

Hi OP. My husband and I stayed in the Shangri-La the night before we went on our honeymoon. It was just after it opened - they had to delay the opening and refit the whole place because the first lot of contractors did such a shoddy job, and you could tell that there were still snags (things like the glass shower door not being able to open properly because of the position of the built in soap holder). This was a few years ago, so I'd hope that they'd have fixed these by now! But in all honesty I wouldn't recommend it. It felt very corporate and uniform to me, in atmosphere and decor. Impersonal. Like a Holiday Inn with extra marble. And it's true that you can see into other people's rooms at night because of the reflection of the double glass.

If I were doing my wedding/honeymoon again, I'd have stayed at a small boutique-style hotel in central London instead - something like this: www.mrandmrssmith.com/luxury-hotels/the-rookery?s%5Btags%5D=destination.destination%3Aeurope.united-kingdom.england%3Bdestination.destination%3Aeurope.united-kingdom.england.london

DH and I stayed in a large south facing room. I prefer the river view but we did spend a lot of time gazing at that over coffee in the morning. But loved the room anyway, was plush and the window Huge, spent ages looking at that view. Once we had put the tv on the floor that is, why put that smack in the middle of such a window Confused
