Can you no longer buy tranexamic acid for heavy periods over the counter?

I had a pack of Cyklo F from Boots a few years ago that I finished last month - although I have heavy periods I only used it very occasionally if I had to go somewhere it would be hard to manage so it lasted me ages.

Thought I'd order a new pack to keep just in case but it's out of stock at Boots and everywhere else I look. I've searched and can't find anything about it being withdrawn, but nowhere has it anymore so I assume it must have been?

I am pretty sure you now need a prescription.

Helenluvsrob · 07/07/2020 08:57

This suggests you can still buy from pharmacy

I don’t know if it’s available OTC. But I have it on a script and the pharmacy have been having issues getting it, on and off.

I get it on proscription from my doctor. I’ve never told you can buy it over the counter.

Halfwayto50 · 07/07/2020 09:46

Never have any issues getting it here but maybe it’s area dependent.

Thefuckingjoys · 07/07/2020 09:49

You can order it online via Superdrug.

Actually ignore me- it was another acid name I think. Sorry for getting hopes up.

AFAIK you can still buy at Boots but they may have supply issues

BoobsOnTheMoon · 07/07/2020 11:37

It can't be area dependent because I've been looking online! But I'll try superdrug, thanks. Boots don't even seem to have it on their website anymore Confused

No you can’t. I used to buy it online/in store and then they stopped offering it, only with a prescription.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 07/07/2020 11:55

That's so strange, because the NHS still say it's available OTC for heavy periods so why has everywhere stopped selling it?

I think it wasn’t an NHS rule change, it was a retailer rule change, or according to woman in Boots when I last asked that was the case.
