Why does yorkshire pudding make me ill?

Sorry bit tmi but have realised that homemade yorkshire pudding gives me horrendous upset stomach, almost instantly. Why would this be? Nothing else does, including pancakes which are exactly the same??!!

When I had gallstones I couldn't eat them. Prob due to them being cooked in oil.

PicsInRed · 07/07/2020 07:33

Rapeseed oil? Different oils, different reactions.

homemadecommunistrussia · 07/07/2020 07:35

I cook pancakes in butter and Yorkshire puddings in vegetable oil so slightly different.
(When I had gallstones it wasn't triggered by high fat food despite everyone telling me it was.)

When I cook them at home I use extra virgin olive oil which I use all the time so cant be that. I would the same for pancakes.

Have you done a true test eg eaten Yorkshire pudding alone? Or is the Yorkshire pudding a clue for you reacting to something else you usually eat at the same time eg roast lamb?

forrandomposts · 07/07/2020 07:40

I wouldn't cook in extra virgin - it's really for dressings etc. It burns at even quite low temperatures so perhaps that's what's making you ill?

onalongsabbatical · 07/07/2020 07:42

Pancakes being thin cook all the way through easier - if your YPs are not cooked through you could be getting some almost uncooked egg which could have salmonella in? Just a long shot, I got salmonella (years ago) from pancake mix not refrigerated and not properly cooked.

icelollycraving · 07/07/2020 07:43

Maybe try cooking them in an oil designed for high temperatures that Yorkshire puddings need. Maybe the burnt oil is affecting you? Are you able to eat other gluten products with no probs?
Maybe they aren’t for you, I’ll have them 😊

Dd1 is exactly the same with pastry. Fine with all the ingredients but always got a bad tummy ache with even a little pastry.

TheQueef · 07/07/2020 07:46

Lard.
Cook them in lard or the cream coloured bit of dripping.
It's worth it for the taste alone.

Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 07:48

I'm happy with the oil I use, we use it for roast potatoes, all meat, I'm fine after every type of meat. They are definitely cooked all the way through and I'm only ill once then totally fine. So not salmonella as would be much iller I'm sure!

I havent actually made them myself for a long time but had a takeaway roast dinner and was ill, realised next door that I used to cook ill like that after toad in the hole and common factor was yorkshire pudding.

Is it something else eg gravy? I know someone who is very ill after gravy.

Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 07:50

Next day not next door! And be ill not cook ill!

OP posts:
Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 07:51

No not gravy as I'm fine after gravy.

Wheat intolerance?

user1471530109 · 07/07/2020 07:54

I was about to say gravy. I now have to eat a roast without it Sad

Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 07:54

So that would be the flour? But I'm fine after pancakes! And anything else with flour.

It also took me ages to work out what it was.

Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 07:58

I have gravy most sundays and am fine so cant be that.

Sophiesdog2020 · 07/07/2020 08:01

So did you cook them yourself, or did the takeaway provider?

If the latter, then it’s obviously an ingredient used by them?

Mumneedingadvice78 · 07/07/2020 08:58

Cook them myself (but haven't for a while) and had awful upset stomach.
Then also had the takeaway one and same thing happened.
