Summer life overhaul

Due to being made redundant at the end of the month I’ll have a lot of time to sort everything out and do things that I’ve previously not had time for. Not sure what I’m wanting from this thread, perhaps just a place to record small achievements, for anyone else who’s life will change in the coming months, for support, tips and ideas?

So, I’ve split my goals into ‘main’ goals and plan to make small steps towards achieving them every day.

They are (very basic/roughly until I break them down into smaller steps):

House - Declutter, decorate where needs it, keep to a cleaning routine.

Work - Update skills, update CV, look for opportunities.

Health - Sleep routine, exercise routine, healthier eating and the biggie stop smoking (basically just try and lead a healthier life)

Mental health - I think getting started on some of the other stuff will help with this but I’d like to practice some type of mindfulness each evening just to wind down and relax.

Beauty etc - Better skincare, look after self better (occasional facial/tan etc), get rid of clothes that don’t fit/I bought without thinking about.

Looking at that it looks like I’m setting myself up for failure but I have 6/7 weeks from finishing work to the dcs going back to school so I’d be very happy if I at least make a start with routines and getting things done. I’m not expecting things to be drastically different within that time.

That sounds very ambitious but great! I have found a routine helps (as much as possible around shifts) so I get up in the morning and walk or run, do yoga (EXCELLENT for mental health) and then plan something chore like for the day which will depend on work. Despite being terrible with routine I have found I am sticking to the yoga and walking and it is now a normal non negotiable part of the day unless I am out for 15 hours then I not so good!

A to do list for the day is great but keep it realistic and break every thing into small chunks e.g. today I will do exercise, food shop, clear out bedroom. Tomorrow I will exercise, finish clear out of that room etc. Decorating as well may be enthusiastic with kids but I guess you can see how you go

I personally find I am most physically productive in the morning so would save the CV writing for sitting down in the evening but everyone is different so think about when each thing suits you

A giant overall list is helpful I find and then a daily to do list- I am a big fan of being able to cross things off..

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply!

I might as well start tomorrow with tiny baby steps!

My to do list for tomorrow will be:
20 minute walk at lunchtime
Sort out one cupboard/storage space
Mini facial in evening

I'm in. Will try to post goals tomorrow.

Well done, sounds amazing!
I started something similar last year after coming out of the fog of sleep deprivation with DD1.
Body- I started low carb boot camp last October and have lost a stone.
Mind- I've signed up for psycho therapy fortnightly.
Money- Last year I completed a DRO and have wiped all of my debts. My credit rating is now shot but I am going to get a credit card and pay off in full each month so I can start building it and I need to start saving.
Family- I have booked a 4 day trip to visit my dad in the summer.
Work- I teach part time but have managed to get some part time work over the summers so I can afford to do fun things with DD.

gOOD LUCK op- YOU'RE WORTH IT!

I have a list of 30 jobs, one for each day of the month (mostly!)
So the 1st is descale shower head and kettle and replace water filter. The 2nd is houseplants, 3rd is the top of the picture frames and so on. This allows the small jobs to be done regularly and gives me at least one job to tick off my list each day Wink

FaceOfASpink · 07/07/2020 07:12

I'm place marking for when the school holidays start. Up to my eyes till then.

FaceOfASpink · 07/07/2020 07:15

I'm sorry you lost your job action. You sound like me - in response to a scary blow, get some control over the rest of your life. A previous colleague said she could tell when I was worried or stressed because I'd start a massive tidy up of my area of the officeGrin

petalpower · 07/07/2020 09:16

@TreacherousPissFlap would you be able t9 share your list of jobs for each day of the month please?

TreacherousPissFlap · 07/07/2020 10:00

Some of its rather niche!

  1. Descale kettle and shower head, replace water filter
  2. Houseplants
  3. Tops of picture frames
  4. Big mirror over fire
  5. Flea treatments
  6. Wash cushion covers (DDog3 loves her cushions!)
  7. Wipe out fridge
  8. Clean one kitchen drawer / cupboard
  9. Skirting board up the stairs
10. Wash dog leads and toys as needed 11. Screen wash and tyre pressure for car 12. Big hoover filters 13. Wash bird feeders and bowls 14. Wipe the white wall by the front door (we have 3 dogs and live in the country!) 15. Sort the coat / shoe rack out 16. Dust the shit shelf (pebbles, shells, bones etc - very dusty!) 17. Pull the sofa right out (not just 3 inches either way!) 18. Go to the charity shop 19. Dust the porch shelves and mop floor 20. Sweep / hoover / wash door mats as needed 21. Clean out dog cage in car and hoover boot 22. Scrub recycling boxes 23. Clean log burner with special stuff 24. Descale all taps 25. Clean one kitchen cupboard / drawer 26. Buy, write and send cards for following month 27. Go to the tip 28. Small hoover filters 29. Wash shower curtain 30. Clean dishwasher

Obviously I don't always stick to the job designated for that day, but I do aim to have completed them all by the end of the month.

That’s great - thank you!
