Dental help.

Just before lock down I visited a dentist as I had tooth pain. The dentist said it wasn't actually the tooth, it was a gum which was worn. He gave me a little gel to use for a few days and it cleared up. He did say my gums were thin and asked if anyone had previously mentioned receding gums. No body had said that before. He said it could be discussed with my usual dentist at my usual check up in early May. That appointment obviously didn't happen.

Today my gums feel the same way in two patches. It's like grazes to the gums, like eating hard things is wearing the gum away. My dentist won't see me until August. Is there anything I can do in meantime to "toughen up" my gums? I brush with an electric brush 2-3 times per day. It has a light on if I press too hard so I know it's the right pressure. I use a tongue scraper a few times a week. I use mouthwash most days. I use a water flosser a few times a week as my gaps aren't very big for piks or floss. What else can I do?

The only thing that sticks out is that you might be over cleaning if you are doing it three times a day -twice is sufficient. Even the correct pressure from an electric toothbrush can irritate your gums. Also your mouthwash may be causing irritation. There are quite a few I can't use as they sting and make my mouth feel sore, so perhaps try a gentler one with no alcohol in it.

Thank you. I'm so worried that I'm going to end up with terrible gum receeding

I’ not sure if it works but my mum a few years ago had similar issues and was advised to rub sensodyne toothpaste into her gums twice a day. She got bored and didn’t do it so I don’t know if it works.

If you want to avoid gums receding, you really should be flossing every day. A Waterpik is a relatively gentle way to floss compared to some manual dental flosses, although it wont remove all traces of plaque.
Similarly, tongue brushing needs to be done daily.
I would also recommend Gengigel. It's not cheap but it is incredibly effective.

OP, Gentigel from Amazon is your friend. It was recommended to me by a friend who was told to use it by her dentist. It has helped my sensitive teeth and is recommended for receding gums. I have the gel and a mouthwash in the same range.
