Bed sores, pressure sores

Just found out from my elderly MIL that my even more elderly and very frail FIL has bed sores or pressure sores. Can anyone recommend what would help, in terms of cushioning and easing him as he sits and lies down? Preferably something I can order from Amazon or Boots. I’m not based in the U.K. so all I can do is order stuff to be delivered to them.
She has said she thinks some kind of gel cushion would help but I don’t know where to start. Thanks

Wonderful advice thank you so much. Have to run out to collect son now (it’s 4pm here) but will draft something tonight and explore the local services available via the link.

Hi muff just picking up on he struggles to eat soft food with a spoon. Is he on any special diet? As in speech and language therapist have said he is on an IDDSI.level diet?

Ask the GP to refer to the district nurses and they will asses and order the correct equipment and monitor FIL. Hope they get sorted x

Hi OP how worrying for you.

This is the information for North Yorkshire Council - if you want to make a referral.

The cross over between the NHS and council vary from area to area, but he needs a full assessment in regards to the pressure sores so the GP practice might be the best place to sort. They probably won't discuss anything with you but you can ask them to contact your in-laws.

I hope they get the right services in quickly.

I'm a nurse, if he has pressure damage he needs to be under the district nurses for assessment and treatment, they will order the appropriate equipment for him.

@Muffster Did you have any luck today with referrals / getting help in place?

Update: district nurse has been round and some sort of Gel cushion is on its way. A care needs assessment is being carried out and MIL is being linked into the local carer support system. Thanks so much for all the help

Pressure sores can be quite dangerous if they are really bad, and need properly attending to. As in having a nurse to visit, and dress the sores, and can take weeks to sort out. They will assess the depth of the sores,as they can be very bad regarding infection if not dealt with.

You can find lots of pressure sore aids on line,or speciality shops.

Muffster That is really good news and I hope that your in-laws get all the hep and support they need.
