I’ve stabbed my foot-why is the pain so disproportionate to the size of the puncture?

I somehow managed to kick a glass, smash it and stab a shard of the broken glass into the top of my foot, just off to the side. The pain was immense! One thick trickle of blood and it stopped bleeding. I’m really struggling to walk on it now, I’ve got a tiny puncture hole but I can’t flex my foot or wiggle my toes without it really hurting. There’s no glass left inside. Just wondering why it’s so painful or if I’m a total wuss!

Feet have a lot of nerve d ding and injuries always hurt much more than you think they should. I once got it with a Small stone on my foot and the pain left me gasping but there was no visible injury.

Possibly bruising, you must have kicked it pretty hard to smash it. DH once dropped a knife, pointy end down, straight onto his foot. He was so, so lucky that the cut was deep but didn’t do any major damage. He was amazed at the bruise that came up round the wound though, it was as painful as the cut.

Thanks everyone. Just had a proper look at it in the bath-it’s very swollen and the puncture is right on top of my tendon so I think I’ve maybe nicked it.

Any chance there is still some glass in there?
