Stuff given to Charity shop which you have regretted

Just that really. When we moved house I obviously had a clear out. I had two jackets from Per Una which I wish I hadn't got rid of as I have a couple of outfits they would go with perfectly. Also two jumpers I wish I had kept. I held on to the black one and got rid of the pink and green ones. Which would go really well with some skirts that now fit me better after losing some weight. Lastly a James Martin cook book. I made the stilton and broccoli soup recipe and it was delicious. Even my Dh who hates broccoli loved it. (I substituted the stilton for cheddar. Stilton would have been a bridge to far for DH) Kicking myself that I hadn't written the recipe down.

Some Chanel court shoes. A clear out too far.

MrsEricBana · 04/07/2020 00:31

Very nice coat with ripped lining. Could have got the lining fixed.

The Monty Don Fork To Fork garden cook book. DH tracked it down again for my birthday last year but it cost him £20 off EBay Blush

Is this the Soup recipe on you tube

When we moved to the other side of the world, DP was tasked with packing up the kitchen. Biggest regret of the move.

He got rid of anything of actual value, including all of my kitchen appliances (coffee machine, mixer etc) and a beautiful mortar and pestle set. Gave most to charity and some to our cleaner. He kept a few basic things like giant box of assorted cutlery, none of which actually matched.

Of course, because we were moving so far, most of our belongings were going via sea freight which took 8-12 weeks. So by the time we arrived at our destination we needed to buy cutlery anyway. So we ended up with twice as much cutlery as we needed and nothing decent for the kitchen. AngryConfused

He was very sheepish once I hit the roof he realised what he'd done, and bought me some brand new things to replace the ones he'd chucked.

Yes, when I split up with my husband many years ago, I gave away everything ( beds , wardrobes ,mattress, chairs etc.
I did this in anger but regretted it later.
Then it was too late

I regret all the clothing I donated 15-20 years ago. Clothing that I was bored of but still had plenty of wear left in!

Quality has decreased so much now I don’t manage to donate anything anymore as it all wears out.

KatyN · 04/07/2020 07:51

Not quite the same, but I cleared out my wardrobe and have lots of old stuff to charity. Then a few weeks later I was in the same charity shop and saw my skirt there. I didnMt wear it anymore but it had sentimental value because it was what I was wearing when my husband proposed.
I bought the skirt back

Then I got home and realised it wasn’t my skirt but shocker of shocks, monsoon had made more than one of the skirts and now I owned two.

Sometimes I have the odd pang of regret, for instance, it was recently the 40th anniversary of the strawberry shortcake doll, and I had got rid of my first edition original and all her friends, but I try not to dwell on it !!! They sat in the loft for decades doing nothing, I should have really let my girls have them when they were little, but I forgot about them.
Clothes I don't really regret.
I also get buyers remorse, about all the money I've wasted on things I thought I really needed, but really didn't!

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 08:18

A particular two-piece outfit that was a few years old.
I did a big clear out when I was pregnant, and stupidly decided that I probably wouldn't fit in that one again. I did actually lose all the weight after the pregnancy and the next one.

A skirt from Phase Eight that I now periodically look for on Ebay and a beautiful lilac coloured cardigan from Kew. I once almost bought back a dress I had donated by accident whilst looking through the racks. Hope the charity shops will be open soon Grin.

A Gucci bag 😭. It was absolutely immaculate and had only been used a couple of times. I got myself into a right panic with a last minute house move and put it in the wrong bag.

crispsahoy · 04/07/2020 08:26

My wedding dress! I figured I'll not wear it again but didn't factor in the sentimental

MrsClatterbuck · 04/07/2020 08:44

@mysteryfairy

Not the recipe but looks similar. It was a good few years ago. Might try it and substitute the watercress with broccoli. I also love celery and stilton soup so might do this with more celery.

A pair of track pants I put in a charity bin only to release later they had my Tag Heur watch - given to me by my late father - zipped in the pocket

MrsClatterbuck · 04/07/2020 08:50

@violetbunny
MY DH when we were moving house also packed some of our kitchen stuff. His only mistake was getting rid of some square shaped shot glasses I had bought in Habitat when we had been in Glasgow for the weekend. Not worth anything but I really liked them and he also made sure his collection of vintage small glasses came with us. Still rankles with me.

When I was volunteering a gents waistcoat was donated and the same day it ended up on the shop floor and sold. About an hour after it sold a man came in asking for it as it had belonged to his late father and had sentimental value. He was really sad when we said it had gone.
