Would you go?

I'm a single mum of three (one SN) and at the end of last year I finally saved enough to take us away to a hotel for 2 nights for our first holiday just us since escaping my abusive ex (their dad). It's booked for the end of this month and I'm not sure whether to go. I just feel all the things we were planning on doing such as the arcades, fair ect are going to be shut or just no fun because of all the Covid precautions in place. Also feeding them may prove difficult with the new rules.

I know I sound really negative but I'm not sure what to do. The hotel is just one room with 2 beds and not one where you can eat on site. I know we could go to the beach but since seeing the scenes from the last few weekends that may be manic.

What would you all do go and see what happens or cut my loses and save up for when things are back to being a bit more normal.

Oh Op that's such a shame.

Would they refund?

Could you say rough location and someone local might be able to give some ideas, both on food front and on things to do and places to go where it may be quieter?

I must admit some of my happiest memories of those types of holidays are a picnic tea in the room or chips on the beach.

It's the little things.

Well done on all you have achieved. Thanks

What's the cancellation policy? If you can wait until 24/48 hours before I'd hang on & see how you feel nearer the time. It's still nearly a month & a lot can change in that time.

We've got an air bnb booked for August & we're still going, we won't be doing all of the stuff as we'd planned but we just want a change of scenery.

We're going to the seaside too but I think it'll be less busy by then as more stuff will be open & will have been open for longer so I think (hope!) there'll be less of a mad rush to the beach as soon as the sun shines.

It sounds like you really deserve a break & some fun even if it's watching movies in bed eating a picnic Smile

It's in Kent. We were going as the children had good memories from there and have been wanting to go for a long time. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Well personally I'd continue saving and go when things are more normal. I'd not be able to relax and enjoy it in current circumstances and places being closed will be a disappointment for your dc which, in turn will dampen your fun.
It won't be the lovely break you envisioned I fear.
Will you get your money back?

Nquartz · 03/07/2020 21:35

PS I've already found a couple of places we want to eat when we're away & liked their Facebook pages, everywhere seems to be opening up this weekend or next for eating in & there'll still be takeaway as an option

rookiemere · 03/07/2020 21:43

Can you get your money back ? If yes I'd cancel and do something a a later stage.
If you can't cancel, then, definitely go. Most restaurants and cafes will be open by the end of the month. Foreign holidays will be available so anyone really desperate for sand and sun won't be in the UK, and just do a load of research online about what will be open. Outdoor attractions like mini golf and trampolining should be ok and who knows what else will be available by by then.

AnnaSW1 · 03/07/2020 21:46

If it's by a beach I'd still go and have fish and chips or picnics.

Bettercallgall · 04/07/2020 08:55

Thanks everyone for your advice. I got it very cheap so sadly non refundable. I think I will wait and see how things go with everything opening.

OP, l think that’ best; final decision the day before.

SMaCM · 04/07/2020 09:26

If they won't refund, they might move it to a later date. You could try asking.

Onandonandons · 04/07/2020 09:30

It it's non refundable, you might as well go.
