Do you like them? Just curious.

Yes! I've got a Pendleton which I love... I'm more of a hobby cyclist than a keen one tho!

Handsnotwands · 03/07/2020 21:11

I have a pashley. I love it. I glide around. They’re heavy but very well engineered and i’m not one for off-roading so it doesn’t bother me

lljkk · 03/07/2020 21:12

No, actually, I quite don't like them. But it's ok if other people like them.

I have a Pashley with a wicker basket. It's riding position is much more sat up which I find much more comfy than the leaninf forward stance

I like to think in the summer I glide along elegantly like in their adverts

It's much more like a huffing puffing mess, especially uphill in the rain after a full day at work

Still easier going than my previous bike

Oooh do any of the electric ones look like this ?? I could go for one of those !

Oldraver · 03/07/2020 21:16

I've made a bag to go in my basket

Yes - there is an electric version of the Pendleton Somerby.

I need a bike for short family trips out, perhaps cycling for work. No need for a mountain bike, just a nice easy ride. What kind of bike is best?

I do like them. I was supposed to get one for my last (big) birthday but until I sort out a new shed I have nowhere to store a bike.

I fancied a Pashley Princess classic, maybe in green or black; haven't decided. There's a more expensive version but I'm not sure it would be any better.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 03/07/2020 22:47

Look on Bobbin Bicycles for ideas. I like some of there’s. I went for a straight forward hybrid in the end though.

Yes. I had one that was supposed to fold, but it didn't. I've swapped it for a smaller folding bike that is much lighter, and I can chuck it in the car more easily. But it's not as nice looking as the other one.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/07/2020 22:51

This is the one I've just got and it's fab.

opinionatedfreak · 03/07/2020 22:51

I have a specialized sirrus. They also have a hybrid that is better on gravel trails.

It is so fast compared to my friends Pashley - I'm fat and unfit and can easily outpace her. I've got a rack and some functional panniers.

I agree it does't have the same kerbside appeal but as a bike to get me around it is mega functional.

I have a Claud Butler Windsor. It is hands down the easiest bike I've ever ridden - DH & DS have Carreras & DD has a Raleigh and I am always way ahead of them with little effort.

massistar · 03/07/2020 22:57

I had a Pashley. It was very beautiful but the weight and lack of gears made cycling very difficult where I live. If you don't intend to ever go up even a slight incline it's fine!

I've since swapped mine for a sleek lightweight Genesis hybrid which I love.

lookatmememe · 04/07/2020 08:35

@zampagne thanks !!

Bluewavescrashing · 04/07/2020 08:45

Hmm. My area is very hilly and I'm not sure I can afford a hybrid.

So a lightweight non vintage looking bike then... Carrera?

For baskets etc, I have found a couple of German companies that are really good at doing removable, interchangeable, lockable baskets/bags. There are other companies that do removable ones, even Decathlon, but none of them had locking ones (that lock with proper keys). Racktime, and KlickFix. So depending on what you need to carry and when, you could get front and/or rear baskets to carry stuff for work, and then take them off to make it lighter for longer rides, etc.

LeJollieJauneOiseau · 04/07/2020 08:57

I had a look at Decathlon who have their own brand of electric Dutch style bikes at a lot less that say a Pendleton. I've been considering getting one but it would have to be an electric one.

277xo · 04/07/2020 08:59

They look wonderful but they’re SO heavy. If you want a lovely looking but more practical bike look at Temple Cycles or Tokyobike.

Minesril · 04/07/2020 09:02

I have a red pendleton with an Orla Kiely basket which matches the child seat. DS1 is too big for the seat but DS2 will go in it in a couple of years!

opinionatedfreak · 05/07/2020 17:33

Do you work? Can you get cycle to work - if you are a higher rate tax payer it is a no-brainer...

Bluewavescrashing · 05/07/2020 17:44

I do work (teacher) but I'm part time so not a high earner.
