What could I study or do?

I’m 28, I’ve been a SAHM for three years and before that it was retail. I'm feeling very stuck.

I want to go back to work soon but I need to further educate myself in some way, so I can try to cultivate some sort of career. (I don't want to continue working in retail, my DH currently does and it makes it difficult for childcare at weekends, plus I'm very introverted and find growth in this sector difficult, similarly with hospitality, plus the unsociable hours these roles require.)

I started a degree in Fine Art after Alevels and a foundation year, but I dropped out after 2 years due to depression and anxiety. That was nearly a decade ago now, and all I have on my CV is lower management hospitality and retail jobs.

Has anyone been in a similar position, or could offer some advice? I’d love to work in a creative industry, but without the credentials it seems impossible.
Is there something o could study that would give me a foot in the door and be broad enough to keep my options open?

This is a bit vague! Do you mean you'd like the buzz of working in a supportive/admin role - at say an art school or theatre - or do you mean you would like to develop your own creative talent?

You mentioned Fine Art. Have you kept up any type of practice in art?

I guess the first thing to do would be to establish just what you might be able to get in terms of a Student Loan - I don't know where two years used leaves you. And then perhaps look for some careers advice - this can be really helpful in highlighting your strengths and weaknesses. But I think you need to identify the thing you want to do first.

What were your A Levels in? And what were your grades?
I take it you're a Zelda fan? Grin

Thank you for the replies (and yes a Zelda fan Grin)
I do still draw and paint, the occasional commission or doodle for family members and gifts when asked. My intention was to always go into teaching. Sorry to be vague, but I'm not 100% sure what I would do. I vary between ideas of working in admin roles within a creative environment (galleries, studios etc.) to being 'the creative' somewhere - in design, marketing - I'm just very lost in it all.
My Alevels were art, English and philosophy and ethics.
Funding, I don't think I qualify for anything, I stupidly ate up 3 years of funding trying to get back on track repeating a year.

If you completed those 2 years (or even 1) the open university has a process to award credit transfer. If you do that you could continue your degree with them and move into education and teaching that way. FE institutions have different criteria for teaching so a job in the arts dept there may be an option.

What were your A levels in?

Maybe voluntary work at a museum, a school workshop role for visiting children. Sought after roles but definitely out there. :-)
