As per the title really....... lived here nearly two years but in the last few months a damp/musty smell comes and goes from the en suite.

No window but i always use the fan and often leave the door open with windows in bedroom open so plenty of ventilation.

I have cleaned the drains of shower and sink, clean it myself weekly and occasional pre-lock down professional cleaner. I cant pinpoint the smell but strongest almost in the doorway!

Any advice welcome. Im emailing the building company this week and hoping they can send somebody as soon as they are all to socially distance etc

We had a new bathroom just over a year ago and had a few issues. 1. We had a leak under the shower tray, it spread under the vinyl floor and there were some patches of mould underneath, think this is now resolved. 2. We have a waterfall type shower head, water seems to get stuck in it if you don't tilt it after a shower to drain and it smells mildewy.

Possible small leak somewhere would be my guess

Can you call the developer as still so new?

A relative had this problem and it was down to the plumber not tightening the shower fixings properly which meant it was leaking. I would check the plumbing that is hidden by panelling. They only discovered it when water started coming through the ceiling below.

You have a leak. It could be very small, but there is a drip somewhere.
As others have written, it could be as small as nut not tightened enough.

Do not ignore it, as they can do real damage.

That’s interesting about the leak....... thank you all. I’ve noticed the shower temperate control dial thingy is a bit stiff and wanted to get the plumber in to fix that so I wonder if that’s related. Also there isn’t silicone all around the edges of the shower so I wondered if that’s a factor. Okay will get on the case with the building company!

We had this with our new bathroom and were convinced it was a leak. The plumber came back and had a good hunt, finding that it was mould growing in part of the cistern, which was hidden behind a unit. Apparently a lot of the new plastic cisterns have parts that can get mouldy and smell. It might not necessarily be a leak.

That’s the thing samsmum, I can’t always smell the damp, it come s and goes and even when I can smell it, I can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from! I just pray I have an experienced and helpful plumber!

Hi all, so I’ve finally had a plumber from the developers around . He’s peeped around, lofted the shower tray etc. All looks dry.

He did think because I travel during the week and the bathrooms not used, that it’s the smell of stale water lingering in pipes etc. So that’s kind of a relief. however! What do I do about that? Have any of you had this before? I’d there anything I can do to prevent or lower the smell? Maybe block you the drain somehow while I’m not here?
