Beavers/cubs/scouts cost

notheragain4 · 02/07/2020 15:29

I have tried contacting two separate beaver groups to find out costings to no avail, I guess they aren't checking emails at the moment. I'm just trying to work out a budget for when we move house, I know it differs by area but could you let me know what you pay and maybe there will be a consensus or average I can work out?!

I'm in north Herts and our group is currently £30 per child per term. But this will go up considerably next year because of national HQ covid costs and safeguarding & legal costs. Probably £36 per term.

I know of other groups already charging £40 per term in Berkshire.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 02/07/2020 15:52

It's still the single best value activity your child is every likely to do.

notheragain4 · 02/07/2020 15:54

Thank you. I was thinking it would be about £30 a month so I'd be happy with £40 a term, maybe that would be a good assumption to make. We are midlands.

I pay £10 a month for beavers, east Midlands.

Rudolphian · 02/07/2020 15:55

Mine goes to guides. £1 per session paid when attending.
She also goes scouts. £11 a month standing order.
We are in the North West

Techno56 · 02/07/2020 15:58

£10 a month all year by standing order, in the SW

Rudolphian · 02/07/2020 15:58

Argh cant edit post.
She actually a brownie and a beaver. Not a guide/ scout

MummaMeerkat · 02/07/2020 16:03

We're in Kent. £35 per term for Brownies, £30 per term for Beavers. It is amazing value!

BrieAndChilli · 02/07/2020 16:10

We are in southeast wales and pay £40 a term plus then extra for any camps etc they might go on - can range from £5-50 depending on how many nights and what accommodation and activities

Our group has to pay £45 year to HQ U.K. and wales HQ so the actual group are only getting £25 a term out of which they need to pay hall rental, keep equipment updated/replaced, supplies etc so it’s a pretty good deal.

ritatherockfairy · 02/07/2020 16:10

South East. £30 per term for Brownies plus extras for optional trips/camps. Agree it's the best value activity your child can do.

Nquartz · 02/07/2020 16:11

Derbyshire & pay £75 a year in 3 instalments

notheragain4 · 02/07/2020 16:13

It's a lot cheaper than I expected!

itwilldropoff · 02/07/2020 16:14

Lancashire and £15 every half term

foxyknoxy30 · 02/07/2020 16:16

Scouts here just outside Glasgow 10 x £12 payments

CurseryKinkajoo · 02/07/2020 16:19

Sea Scouts for mine (so they normally sail from May-Sept 3 hours a week) is £20 per month. Guides is whatever that years census is each term (so I think £37 at the moment).

Trips/camps etc are extra for both.

TokyoSushi · 02/07/2020 16:19

£10 per month here in the NW, £25 per school term for Rainbows

confusedofengland · 02/07/2020 16:49

Essex, roughly £30 per term. I do find that other costs add up though, especially once they get to Cubs & Scouts. Our troops do lots of activities, such as activity days, cooking, walks to chip shop/McDonald's & these all require extra money.

Also, the uniform is rather dear, so I epulf advise buying secondhand where possible. Also see if your troop allows plain blue trousers rather than branded ones.

I hope you get a place! Ours is the only troop in a large village & I had to put the Dses' names down at age 2 to get a space at 6 Shock

Angel2702 · 02/07/2020 16:57

We pay £10 a month direct debit, but there are a lot of camps and trips that add up over the year.

notheragain4 · 02/07/2020 17:16

Thanks everyone

@confusedofengland oh wow really?! We are moving to a new area so I have no idea tbh, it's a town though so I think there are a few groups. I could get him into our current village but no idea about the new area! I hope so, I thought it would be a way to make friends and he doesn't like football.

£25 a term for beavers here, DD1 loves it.

Yeah, I was advised to put DD2's name down at 3 to get a place for her when she turns 6.

Callmecordelia · 02/07/2020 18:34

£10 per month all year. Be prepared (!) to spend money on equipment - waterproof hiking boots and camping stuff. I bought DD a proper 4 season sleeping bag just before lockdown for a camp that won't happen. Sad

CreepyPasta · 02/07/2020 18:59

£10 per month. North West

reluctantbrit · 02/07/2020 19:51

SE London Borough with lots of Scout groups here

We pay £100/year, we had last year the first increase of 10 years. The subscription is not too bad but the activities can add up if your pack is doing a lot of outside ones.

DD has three longer camps each year, one is a whole week in Summer. That is between £75 for a weekend and £300 for a week.

They also do a lot of England or county wide camps and that’s another £80-100.

Saying that, DD gains so much from it. She learned a lot about team work and independent.

I would always choose the Scouts again.

Sewrainbow · 02/07/2020 21:14

£15 month midlands here

cptartapp · 02/07/2020 21:28

We paid £10 a month. North West. My two also did football, cricket, refereeing etc, but now late teens still agree it was the extracurricular activity that's benefitted them the most over the years. Very fond memories.
