3rd pregnancy - severe hemmoroids

3rdpregnancy · 02/07/2020 13:24

Hey I am looking for abit I’d advise. Sorry if TMI I am just desperate. I am 27 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and have been experiencing extreme discomfort and a lot of bleeding from haemmoroids since 15weeks.

All treatments and prescriptions doctor has given have not been effective, tried suppositories, creams, witch hazel wipes. Eating more fibre and water as advised and still no relief.

Seem to be leaking mucus and blood every time I sit on the toilet and it is really getting me down.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and any advise on how to relief symptoms?

Oh you poor love I had them after ds2 and it was horrendous. Have you been given a cream with hydrocortisone in it? That was the only thing that worked for me. It was called Proctosedyl and was prescribed by my GP. Hope you get some relief soon.

3rdpregnancy · 02/07/2020 16:11

Yes just finished a course of proctosedyl cream and suppositories. The first couple of days I thought it was working but sadly it continues. Did you have yours throughout your pregnancy?
Obviously worried as I got them very early and I still have a way to go, I’ve been told they will only get worse!

It you poor thing! I sound up in hospital recently with piles, and honestly, yours sound worse than mine were. Keep going to the doctor, keep on at them. I rather think it can depend if the person you are had ever had piles themself, cos you just don't get how painful they are if you haven't experienced it!
I was given syringes of numbing gel to use, and the relief was almost instant. The damn things took ten days to subside but once I could control the pain, it was better.
I don't suppose there are any safe "big" painkillers you can have being pregnant are there?
One thing (desperate search for silver lining here) giving birth will be a doddle, cos the damn piles hurt WAY more!

I had one last year what was so painful it woke me up at night. I was referred do the hospital but I read about bathing in Epsom salts and I did that twice a day. It started do shrink really quickly. I wasn’t pregnant so I not sure if it would work for you.

3rdpregnancy · 02/07/2020 16:49

Oh god really, sounds awful. Glad they have cleared up now. Do you know if the numbing gel can be used in pregnancy?

I am really just getting desperate, you are definitely right on depending what doctor you have. Unfortunately with the current situation, I am only able to request phone consults and the same doctor keeps contacting me no matter how much I request someone else.
All I keep being told is as I’m pregnant they are restricted on what they can do.
I’ve had mild piles before but went to a&e over it a couple of weeks ago and they have said they are grade 4. Was a wasted trip as they told me as they weren’t bleeding relight that second they weren’t concerned and I should just eat more fibre.
The problem is I am not constipated at all however, every time I go to the toilet I am in agony for hours after.
The amount of blood doesn’t seem normal either but keep being told as I am not anemic they aren’t worried.
Really is sucking the fun out of this pregnancy. Just hoping for a miracle really!

I am more embarrassed of giving birth this time as I have these things to contend with!

Goslowlysideways - oh really, did Epsom salts really work? Did you just put them in the bath? Did you use a particular brand?

Lavender oil - mix with a few drops of milk and add to your bath

3rdpregnancy · 02/07/2020 16:58

Thanks, I will give the lavender oil a go

Epsom salts help me (still suffering years after third pregnancy on and off). Also Germaloids cream as it stops the pain being quite so intense post movement. Previously had paracetamol suppositories post birth when pain very severe.

Also just because the ad made me smile something like

along with 1/2 a sachet of movicol daily to keep things moving when bad, Lepicol for fibre, lots of veggies and fruit and hardly ever eating red meat.

3rdpregnancy · 02/07/2020 18:21

How often would you use Epsom salts? We’re they bad in your third pregnancy?
Does red meat make it worse?

They were bad in my 3rd pregnancy as I was pretty much bedbound, not exercising and eating only hospital food. Red meat for me makes it more likely to be constipated, also not drinking enough water too which creates a vicious cycle as the haemorrhoids start to heal then you end up constipated and they flare up again. I would use Epsom salts as often as I could, but particularly after a bowel movement if possible. You could also get a sitz bath so you don't have to do a full bath each time.

Haemorrhoids suck.

Goslowlysideways · 02/07/2020 23:03

I can’t remember the brand I used. It really helped. I was in agony. I got in the bath every moment I had. Even if it was for a little while then tried to have a good soak every night. They just started to go and I carried on until it was back to normal. Even now if I get any feeling of discomfort I start using them again.
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this.

3rdpregnancy · 03/07/2020 22:42

I’ve ordered some Epsom salts so fingers crossed. Has anyone used germaloid suppositories and found them effective?
