Dd is really struggling with oily hair. She has been for the last 2 years but it’s getting worse. She’s 12 And trying to get her to wash her hair every day is a nightmare.

We are currently trying L'Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Rebalancing Shampoo but shes only able to go every other day. Before her hair looks wet and sticks to her head. I wash her hair 🙈 over the bath so I know she’s doing it right.

Can anyone recommend something good?

Thank you x

Washing your hair everyday will cause your scalp to overcompensate and make more oil from all the natural oils that have been stripped away by the chemicals in shampoo, I'd try finding a super mild shampoo or maybe even something natural, sorry its not a super helpful comment.

It’s ok to wash your hair everyday, if using the correct shampoo something for everyday use
Frequent
Simple shampoo

Have you tried spraying roots with dry Bastiste perhaps night before

IVe found head and shoulders for oily hair good for my dd.
same battles about getting her to wash it, I find its worse when she doesn't wash it all thoroughly and / or rinse it all out well enough. When its done properly it lasts more days between needing a wash. She seems too be getting better at it washing it thoroughly herself now.

Just bought this for 13-year-old DS who's starting to get greasy hair and it seems to work well so far (only started using it this week though). If you scroll down on that link they have a few other oily hair shampoos in the same range. He washes his hair every other day.

I’ve always had oily hair and skin, it doesn’t matter how often I clean it it’s going to pump out oil. It’s puberty and you’ve just got to go with it.

I’ve just ordered a lee stafford shampoo brush which reviews says leaves your hair hairdresser clean but it’s not turned up yet. Denman do one too.

Watching with interest! 10yr old dd has all of a sudden gone greasy in the hair department Sad

Are you doing the wash-rinse-wash again and rinse thing? For me it's a waste of shampoo but for DD1 at the same age, I found that she needed the 2nd shampoo to actually get any sort of 'wash' as the first didn't even create any suds at all.

Bodyshop fuji shampoo is brill and the scrub.

But you do need to train the hair abit to wash is less. Can you start every other day with some dry shampoo inbetween? Spray some batiste then blowdry it through.

I wash my hair now twice a week but I can go a week to be honest.

My teenager suffers from very greasy hair and is currently using Lidl own brand Apple shampoo for greasy hair. Like someone else said his hair also doesn't lather properly with first shampoo, always needs to shampoo, rinse , shampoo and thoroughly rinse again.... and absolutely no conditioner. Hair will need washing again on day 3. Other brands and over use of conditioner can see grease reappearing mid afternoon.

CorianderLord · 02/07/2020 13:28

Anything clarifying.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/07/2020 13:33

But @Cordial11 your not pubescent. Their hormones are all over the shop.

Cordial11 · 02/07/2020 13:42

@Fluffycloudland77 it's worked for my niece who is Smile

I’ve had a lifetime of greasy hair so I’ve pretty much tried everything, including leaving washing for as long as possible, which didn’t make a blind bit of difference. Stay away from sulphate-free shampoos, the sulphates are necessary or the scalp and hair won’t get thoroughly clean. Vichy do a fantastic shampoo for oily hair. Also look for clarifying shampoos. Head and Shoulders use to be great for this but they’ve recently added silicones to their shampoos and that will add to the greasy feel. It acts like a conditioner, which you don’t want.

Always do 2 washes and rinse thoroughly. Really scrub the scalp and hair, it makes an enormous difference.

If the hair is particularly greasy at wash time, you can put the shampoo on before wetting the hair. My hairdresser told me this tip as she knows how oily my scalp is, and it’s honestly been life-changing for me.

I have had oily hair for more than 40 years and tried all manner of shampoos.

I am currently using Aldi Lacura Spring Emerald with Lime shampoo after seeing it recommended on Facebook. It seems to be doing a very good job and cheap as chips so worth a try.

I've always had greasy hair and I need 2 shampoos for it to feel clean.
I'm using Herbal Essence White Strawberry and Mint these days and it's fine.
I find clear gel type shampoos better than creamier ones.
I tried the clay one mentioned it the OP but I think it caused a build up on my hair.
