Can I claim universal credit for last 3 months of maternity when I don't get paid?

DH is being made redundant and I'm coming up to the last 3 months of maternity leave where I won't get paid anything. I have savings for the last 3 months but not what we would need if DH doesn't have a job.
Does anyone know if you can claim universal credit when on maternity leave? I've never had to claim before so abit confused by it all.
(Savings under £6000 so I know that won't affect my claim).

Yes, you can claim universal credit at any time. Try using one of the benefit calculators online to see what you might get.

If you husband isn't working can you ask to go back from maternity leave early?

It has been a while for me since I was on Maternity leave, but I claimed Working Tax Credit. I am not sure if it has been rolled into Universal Credit or it is still a stand alone, but might be worth exploring.

Thank you I only work part time no chance of increased hours esp at the moment. I've been told the benefits if I could claim them would probably amount to similar to my pay.
Also hoping that DH gets another as quick as possible. Then we would have a childcare issue for a few months. Although I'm not very hopeful about the job situation at the moment.

Do you claim for tax credits already? As be aware this will end if u do universal credit and won’t restart even when circumstances change. Try the turn2us benefits calculator, it is good.

Firstly when your DH stops working he should claim new-style JSA, it's only about £75/week but every little helps.
(He might be entitled to redundancy pay, too, if he's been there 2 or more years.)
Do you rent or have a mortgage?
You will most probably be eligible for Universal Credit when your maternity pay ends or when DH's job ends (whichever comes first) and you can check using a benefit calculator like Entitledto or Turn2Us. It won't tell you about new-style JSA though (as that's based on NI contributions, he will be eligible if he's been working and paying NI for the last few years).
If you're not already claiming tax credits, you can't make a new claim, so forget about those.

We just claimed universal credit while I was on maternity leave. I only got smp, which ends in August (end of the 39 weeks). My self employed partner wasn't working. U should look into applying now as it is all based on ur income.

I'll add that you should apply once partner is made redundant and is given his last pay. The day after you should apply. That becomes your "assessment month". If your partner got a large payment within your assessment month it would invalidate any money you would get.
