Has anybody had osteopathy?

I've booked in to see an osteopath on Friday, I'm having an excruciating tmd flare up affecting my face, head and neck.

Does anybody have any experience of seeing an osteopath and do you think they're helpful?

Absolutely, yes - I've found a really good one who sorts out my knots and kinks easily whenever they flare up. I last went to see him with shoulder pain but the problem was actually in my neck - he diagnosed and treated me within 30 minutes and I was pain free the next day.
You have to find one that works for you though - I've seen a few but wouldn't go anywhere else now.

Yes, I find they are very good with mechanical problems in the body.

I've had quite a bit done to get rid of various kinks, which has been leading to persistent one-sided tendonitis when I was running very long distances. Also good when my shoulder nearly froze.

Other people swear by physiotherapy for that kind of issue, though.

I think finding a practitioner you have confidence in is the crux.

Yes - the gentle massage type rather than the "tie you in a knot and crack you out flat" type.

Sadly mine retired and I need to find a new one but she sorted my back/neck/shoulder issues out many times.

Yes - several times. Initially to deal with headaches, that were caused by too much hunching over the computer, as well as consistently carrying my handbag on my left shoulder.

Also for a trapped nerve in my arm, and a frozen shoulder.

Just waiting till I can go again to sort out an issue with my lower back/hip/pelvis.

I sound like a right crock, don't I?! Grin

Would heartily recommend.

Yes, I took my son to see one as he had torticollis (unable to turn head in one direction at a few weeks old) and it was massively helpful. He was considerably better after one session and had a lot more range of motion, and it was completely gone after 3 sessions.

I also see them periodically for low back pain. Also made a massive difference. It usually takes 2-3 sessions and I am back to feeling normal again. I go maybe every 2 years or something when it flares up again, so been very effective for me.

God yes. Love mine. Genius.

This all sounds very encouraging thanks Smile

I'm glad you all found relief from your aches/pains. Hopefully she can fix mine
