Sofas with removable covers

I need new sofas for our new house but I’m pregnant and feel increasingly that I should go for what’s practical. The only place I can find is Ikea but the reviews are pretty terrible. Do you think it would be enough to keep my sofas covered with a massive throw?

Ikea Ektorp here.

We’ve had leather in the past and they were a disaster. Looked really shabby in no time - scratches and baby sick.

I hate leather. Remember sticking to my mum’s in the summer growing up and cold in the winter!

I have a Stocksund which I bought after we got our dog. I also bought a spare set of covers and it’s been great. Ikea sofas are well designed and last for years. There are also other companies that make covers in different fabrics so you can update.

More Ektorp love her! The sofa has a spare set of covers which I bought at the same time. We don't use it daily though, as it's in the back lounge/my sewing room, but it's much more comfortable than the couches in the living room.

I have an enormous four seater sofa that is ancient and covered in green velour (yes, it's THAT old). But it's so comfortable, works as an occasional bed because it's so long and wide (and they don't build them like that any more!).

I got an ENORMOUS grey throw that goes over the whole thing down to the floor, can be taken off to be washed, and changed if I change my colour scheme.

It's resisted the attempts of three puppies sequentially to chew the legs off, kids have bounced on it, made forts from the cus

It will be with me until either it's stuffing goes, or mine does.

ITS, autocorrect, ITS!

My sofa from Next has removable covers.

We have the Vimle - wouldn’t recommend it to be honest.

peachypetite · 11/07/2020 06:23

@June628 why is that out of interest?

OP posts:

@June628 it’s not very comfortable really and the fabric gets quite dusty really easily. Thinking about returning it but not sure if it’s worth the hassle at the moment. Haven’t tried washing the covers but they’re quite a pain to put on so it’s not something I’d be doing routinely

I have the Soderhamn from Ikea and really like t hem

I had Ektorp ones for years before these and loved them too.

June628 · 11/07/2020 20:56

@peachypetite sorry tagged myself instead of you!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

peachypetite · 11/07/2020 21:30

@June628 yes that seems to be what a couple of the reviews say online!

@peachypetite wish I’d read those 🤣

SofaSofa do lots with washable covers. Made in Wales, excellent service and sturdy.
