Feeling unwell, celiac/ibs/hpylori

I’ve been feeling unwell for the last few weeks. I normally suffer from ibs but have not had symptoms this bad before.

After a couple of separate spells of diareah I brought Imodium ibs however this just gave me a grumbly tummy and constipation for a couple of days then diareah again afterwards.

I then noticed after eating some Cadbury buttons I had really bad wind and bloating and then the next day I had more diareah. I was out shopping and had to rush home to get back in time Blush

I’m feeling more tired then normal by the evening and just on edge with my bowels.

I have spoken to the nurse at my gp who has arranged a celiac blood test as my dad has this and also arranged a stool sample to test for hpylori.

I’m wondering what I can do in the meantime whilst I wait for these results to start to feel back to normal.

Was up half the night last night with Diarrhea and now feeling very sorry for myself. I’m not sure what to eat as I don’t know of food is triggering it. I did have some cheese last night a couple of hours before which I have not eaten for around 2 weeks so not sure if that could be any cause.

Hi Daisy. Make sure you don't stop eating gluten before the coeliac test. It's pretty rife in my husband's family so you have a chance of having it given your Dad does. I think it often goes together with dairy intolerance which could explain your problems with cheese/chocolate. Good news is that the dairy problems sometimes go away eventually in coealics who go gluten free, so that cloud may have a silver lining! Coeliac disease is often misdiagnosed as ibs - Dr Chris Steele who's on This Morning sometimes was diagnosed with Coeliac disease after thinking he had ibs, and he was ambassador for the Coeliac Society at the time!

Thank you for the reply. I had the blood test yesterday and prior to that I last ate gluten on Sunday so the nurse advised me this was fine.

I am now going to avoid gluten and dairy and see how I get on whilst waiting for the results. I just can’t carry on like this as it is affecting my everyday life too much now.

Have you tried excluding palm oil? One of the ingredients in Cadbury's Buttons.

I can’t tolerate malitol, an artificial sweetener. Anything like that in your food? Other sweeteners are fine.

Please be aware that if your celiac antibodies come back positive (and even if they come back negative) they will probably want to do a biopsy, and you will need to be eating gluten for the 4-6 weeks prior to the biopsy for it to show true results, (although the waiting list will probably be longer than that so you are probably fine going gluten free now and re-introducing once you have a date for the biopsy).

Thanks, I’ll look out for ingredients that are in the foods. I’ve decided just not to eat any chocolate for now and unsure about other food. I’ve just eaten a bowl of white rice for lunch it the hope that it won’t aggregate my system.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with 16:8 fasting, it's called the health plan with a weightloss side benefit due to cell regeneration know as autography. Anyway, I'm on a FB group (Delay, Don't Deny) and lots of posters mention improvements in their celiac and IBS symptoms. Generally lots of people with inflammatory conditions seem to find it helps.

Daisy2315 · 01/07/2020 15:39

Thanks Diana I’ll search up that group on Facebook as I have not heard of that before.

Well I’ve had the result back for the celiac testing as satisfactory parameters. So now just waiting for the hpylori results which should be back Monday.

I have cut back to eating plain food like plain chicken, potatoes etc to see if this helps.

I had a day of passing mucus instead of anything else and then today I have had a normal bowel motion but have a grumbling stomach and pain in left side.
