Sewing machine for children

Can anyone recommend a children’s sewing machine? She’s only five!
(Yes I’m aware that I probably have the most dull question ever!)

From what I've seen the kids ones, like the toy ones, aren't really worth having.

I'd go for a mini sewing machine like this one from John Lewis instead. At 5 she will understand to not put her fingers under the needle, and it's actually really hard to do accidentally anyway.

My 6 year old uses my full size machine fine with supervision.

We got a small one that wasn’t a child’s from Hobbycraft for about £40 for my then 8 year old which has been good.

don't get one that just does chain stitch - they are terrible and always drop a stitch every couple of inches which means the whole thing unravels. a basic cheap machine that does proper stitching should be fine with supervision - with the expensive machines you are paying for fancy functionality that most amateurs never need.

I would get an old hand crank singer. Sounds a bit crazy but they’re safer than foot pedal electric ones as you’re not going to go so fast and won’t mistakenly press the pedal with fingers underneath. I learnt to sew on one.

Just check it works well but you can usually get them for about £30.

I got a little sewing bee childrens one for my daughter and it's amazing. My children have made loads of stuff (i may have used it a couple of.times for costumes too) and my daughter at age 7 is almost capable of doing everything for herself.
