If you set up your own business, where did your idea come from?

Just that really. I’m totally unfulfilled at work right now and have lots of skills which would be great for running a business which lots of people keep telling me I should do but I have no idea what that business would be doing! I’m not creative so couldn’t really sell anything I’ve made and equally don’t really have a profession like accountancy or legal services.

Not looking to steal ideas btw, just curious where your idea came from and what led you to start up on your own.

NB : i am thinking more large A4 size mailers and jiffy bags .
There is a seller on ebay offering 100 used jiffy bags at £20.00 but miles away /no postage .otherwise i would buy them local .
so a skip full of 100,000 old jiffy bags = £20k ?

Turnedouttoes of skills do you have?

bobbikato have you thought about furniture removel or staginging empty rooms for houses being sold?

MuseumOfYou you could do those murder weekends or have a mystery of (and keep changing the titles).

@TreatMeNice all of my work experience is very senior level sales in the advertising industry. So my strongest skills are organisation, attention to detail, relationship building, presenting/pitching, negotiation, planning etc which I thought would all be very useful for running a business. Due to the industry I work in I also know a lot about social media advertising, paid search, SEO and I also have a law degree

Unfortunately outside of work I don’t really have any skills or hobbies that I could turn into a business opportunity but maybe I need to think about it a bit harder

I've always been very creative, but when I needed a specific design cut from wood I decided that rather than pay someone else to cut all my deisgns I'd invest in a laser cutter so I can cut and engrave all my own designs, and the business took off. At first I was only offering to local, then I advertised online and it just snowballed from there.

Definitely needs to be something you enjoy and have a skill or experience in to make it fulfilling.

Turnedouttoes to me that sounds like a lot of skills opportunity right there and an impressive one at that,

You've got it all there you just need to formulate and put them in a order as you go through the stages of what comes next, you could even start your own agency.

You could even practice on here to get yourself started by offering advice but state and make it clear its their own choice what to do with it.

So don't sell yourself short.

Thank you all so much for your replies. Something I could do that I know I’d love came to me today and I’m excited to start exploring it. It’s also something I can do for a bit of extra money on the side at the moment and hopefully build up over time which is perfect

Fancy food deliveries seem to be the way to go around here. There are a couple of afternoon tea companies who have been going for a few years and a few who deliver grazing platters. One company are charging £400 for this grazing table!
