Micellar Cleansing Water - load of nonsense?

I briefly caught the end of an advert the other day advertising Micellar Cleansing Water which got me thinking, perhaps it might be a good change from my usual makeup removal wipes. It claimed to do magical things, like, I don't know, easily remove makeup!

It does nothing of the sort, just like wiping expensive water on your face to no effect. Am I doing it wrong?

Wipes are bad for your skin (smoosh makeup about and shove more into your pores than they take off) and of course environmentally appalling.

Micellar water often has harsh surfectants and alcohol so disrupt the ph balance of your skin and cause irritation and redness over the longer term.

Many people, particularly those with naturally oily skin, want that "squeaky clean" feeling without realising that's actually really bad for your skin. It means all the natural protecting surface layer oils have been removed, not just the excess oil of oily skin. So what does your skin do then to protect itself? Produces more oil! Then you harshly cleanse it again .... bad cycle of stressed skin to be in.

I would always recommended a gentle cream cleanser and do a double cleanse if wearing makeup. Flaming facial washes etc also often have very harsh ingredients (SLS isn't a nice chemical) too.

It doesn't work on everything - Double Wear for example. Lighter make up it will be ok.

Apparently you are supposed to rinse it off

I use the Garnier brand and find it fine for make up removal.. It easily removes eye make up too

It is one of the only things that gets my mascara, Benefit They’re Real, off. I use the pink Garnier one and wouldn’t want to be without it.

I like it. It removes everything.

Just finished my online exercise class so make up off earlier than n usual!

It's still not taking off L'Oréal Lash Paradise!

So I did a quick make up wipe, incidentally that's a Nivea micellar wipe and that removes it in a flash, then did the micellar water and my skin does feel lovely now! I think I might have to start using it as part of a processe rather than a quick fix!

I’ve used quite a few and I liked them.

Yeah, I’d say they’re a great buy. (:
