I have a meeting tomorrow with a Jaime. I have googled and I am told by an american website that it is pronounced the same as Jamie. Just double checking that is correct?

Jay-me I would say.

endofacentury · 29/06/2020 09:51

Same as Jamie but jaime is female spelling

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 29/06/2020 09:51

I know one of those. It's pronounced Jamie.

XiCi · 29/06/2020 09:51

Yes same as Jamie

IncrediblySadToo · 29/06/2020 09:51

Yes, it's just Jamie

Cosmos45 · 29/06/2020 09:53

@endofacentury - thank you. It's a male with that spelling.. I'm guessing that's fairly unusual?

I've often wondered this. I know at least one male Jaime. Is the "jaymee" pronunciation meant to be a version of j'aimé ("I loved") or is it nothing to do with the French word?

PrincessSarene · 29/06/2020 09:57

Are they Spanish or Portuguese? I think that’s a fairly common male name in Spain and Portugal, and it’s pronounced like Hi-meh

flowery · 29/06/2020 09:58

It’s a very common male name of Spanish origin pronounced Hy me.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/06/2020 09:59

If they are Spanish, it will probably be pronounced Hi-May/Meh.

ShowOfHands · 29/06/2020 10:00

If a woman, I'd go with Jamie, if a man, I'd assume the Spanish prn. You might have to ask tbh,

Cosmos45 · 29/06/2020 10:00

I don't know what nationality they are.. am worried now how they pronounce it! Whether it's like the Spanish George (hor hay).

OP posts:
Mamette · 29/06/2020 10:01

High-may

VitreousHumour · 29/06/2020 10:01

Definitely high meh if male

BooFuckingHoo2 · 29/06/2020 10:01

Jeh-May because I watch too much summer heights high Wink

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 29/06/2020 10:04

Jaime Lannister is Jamie

daisypond · 29/06/2020 10:05

I would assume a male with the Spanish pronunciation.

SockYarn · 29/06/2020 10:06

Jamie, or Jaime is not a woman's name. Whatever an American website tells you.

I would pronounce it in the Spanish way - Hi-may.

Cosmos45 · 29/06/2020 10:06

Thanks all. I think I am just going to have to double check before the meeting starts. At least I spotted it, all my colleagues correspondence with him have been "Hi Jamie" even though he has signed off his emails with Jaime, and his email address is Jaime.Surname@

OP posts:
ColonelNobbyNobbs · 29/06/2020 10:06

So depends if he’s named after him or is Spanish!

Marmaladey · 29/06/2020 10:06

Honestly, just double check tomorrow. I have a name whose pronunciation is not obvious when written down. It's no problem correcting people and I actually find it's a good ice breaker.

SockYarn · 29/06/2020 10:07

And just ask him! Lovely to meet you, how do you pronounce your name because I'd hate to get it wrong.

Greywind1523 · 29/06/2020 10:10

I had a female lecturer at university called Jaime (American) and it was pronounced the same as Jamie. I’d ask if it’s a male just to make sure.

Catapultme · 29/06/2020 10:11

'Good Morning, I'm Sarah', leave big pause, any luck he'll say, 'Nice to meet you I'm Jaime'.
See also introducing him to other people, 'This is Barry from Accounts....'

BearSoFair · 29/06/2020 10:11

My first thought was 'Jamie' because of Jaime Lannister, but I'm not sure Game of Thrones is the best verification Grin
