Household motivation for the lazy

I am the laziest person I know. I don't know how to snap out of it I hate waking up, I struggle to get the energy to get out of bed and simple household tasks feel like enormous tasks.

I suffer with MH issues so I know it's to do with that but I'm looking for tips and tricks around the house or for myself to get motivated.

What are your short cuts to getting housework done?
How do you get yourself up and motivated?

I don't have children so I don't 'have' to get up which is part of the issue.

I know what you mean. I have to drag myself out of bed in the mornings for work, but if it wasn't for that I think I'd just lie around not really doing anything.

The longer I leave things, the worse I feel because it builds up and seems like an insurmountable task. I haven't completely cracked it, but a few things that help me:

  • Pick a number of things to do that seems manageable. I usually go for 5, not sure why. Then do that number of things, even if it's just picking up e.g. 5 mugs and putting them in the dishwasher, and forget about the rest of the housework for a while. Little by little things get done and it feels more doable for me if there's an end in sight and it isn't just an endless stream of undone chores to do
  • Set a timer and do some housework for 15 or 30 minutes and then go and do something you enjoy. Similar to my previous tip, it really helps me to not feel overwhelmed (and therefore just block out housework altogether) if I know that there's an end in sight and after 30 mins I can clock off
  • Write a list of things to do and include some easy things or things you might have already done that day e.g. brushing your teeth to get you started and give you the satisfaction of ticking something off the list
  • Find podcasts or new music you're excited about and plan to listen to them while doing chores
  • This is quite superficial but new, nice-smelling cleaning products help get me motivated

Not sure if that is helpful at all but it helps me sometimes.

I completely understand.

I find a podcast has a massive impact on me.

Me too, it's all a bit overwhelming, I feel a bit useless sometimes.
