Electric Bike

Has anyone recently purchased an electric bike?

I am considering purchasing a step through electric bike but conscious that the battery will be heavy.

Anyone? Please can you tell me about your experience - model of bike etc.

I tried one for a month. I loved it! I woild need a different saddle if I had one long term

My problem is Im v large so need the sturdy frame. But really the places we want to cycle wed normaly drive them to and there's no way we could lift it onto the roof! Theres not a lot you can cycle to from our house!

@Guineapigbridge my DH is obsessed with the GSD, it it really great? I get the feeling it might be..... I have a 7 and 3 year old, 4 miles to 7 year olds school where I also work, then picking up 3 year Ild from nursery.

How many kids have you had on it? How balanced is it?

I’ve bike commuted for 15 years, had both kids on Yepp seats (DD1 at 3 1/2 while 25 weeks pregnant and could manage that, but how to keep control with 2 kids?’

Guineapigbridge · 01/07/2020 08:49

@Rodent01 it is really exceptionally well engineered for balance. I take one kid often, two kids sometimes and sooooometimes for a trip to the local beach I get all three kids on there (9,7 and 4). We have the cage-bar-contraption-thing at the back rather than individual seats.
It is a very useable bike. Worth every penny IMO.

@Rodent01 Ps I took two silly four year old boys the other day for a ride on the Tern and they were being silly and wiggling all about and I never once felt wobbly. It's because the wheels are small and the bike is low to the ground

Rodent01 · 01/07/2020 11:28

Thanks @Guineapigbridge another reason for my husband to be even more keen on it! I’ve been looking at using our current Yepp and then one seatpadthingy. Might look at the cage bar thing you mention. DH’s work do the cycle to work scheme meaning an overall discount of about £1300 so that’s another bonus.

The only downer is that there are none anywhere till end August, but hopefully in time for school to start again!! Did you get yours direct or from a bike shop?

It’s probably more than a second car, but time saved in traffic on the journey is literally priceless!!

I have a corratec with shimano steps assist, it has a range of about 60 I think. and has eco, normal and high.

We live in a hilly area and I have been doing 18-20 miles a day, which no way could or would I do on a normal bike.

It just makes the world flat, you still have to pedal to get the help, so it's not a total free ride.

Daphne - I have a Liv pro plus

I agree with furball, it makes the world flat. But it certainly doesn’t take the exercise out of it. On strava, it’s still registering I’m burning about 7-800cals on a 25-30 mile ride.
