Vasovagal syncope is the medical term for fainting. It's very common and usually nothing to worry about. If it becomes recurrent it would be worth seeing your GP for further investigation but in most people it's a "one-off" or only happens very occasionally.

Yes, I experience this every time I have a smear or colposcopy. Whenever the neck of my cervix is touched, I pass out. It's awful.

I take diazepam before a smear to help to relax. It doesn't stop me passing out though. My sympathies! X

I have had few episode where i go sweaty, clammy, pale, tight chest, and then as if i am going to pass out, i also get palpitations, gp referred to cardiologist and i had an echocardiogram and a 24 hr monitor and when i have had my obs done my heart rate has been over 100, at 106 and yesterday 122.
They have said could be caused by lots of different things but mine they said is stress, anxiety, working shifts, not sleeping and getting dehydrated.
Are any of you on the pill or is that a no now you have vaso.

I'm not aware of being on the pill making any difference one way or the other but you should discuss this all with your GP. Maybe ask for help with your stress and anxiety? That can raise your heart rate.

Good luck Flowers

We know whats causing the stress, its shift working as a hca with dementia and end if life, having a nasty ex h who has caused me stress, been abusive, been arrested for harrassment and still 4 years down the line still being creepy, even though he is getting married next year. I have a very lovely partner now though who is a grest support and has been through all this with me, my ex h even followed us in the car 20 miles, i had the police on 999 at the time, he even tried to get me out the car when we stopped at lights, all this while he was seeing someone and our marriage was over.
