Navy Kitchen

Ive saved for years and am finally able to get a new kitchen. I wont be putting another one in this house and we'll likey move once we retire, approx 10 years.
I'm really drawn to navy, but very worried it's a fad, and I'll hate it in 2 years.
What should I go for, which is less likey to date so quickly?
Or is this just a fact of Kitchens, that they all date to some degree?

My kitchen is being fitted in the next 4 weeks, wanted navy, found one I loved and 2 weeks ago changed it to carbon which is a real black/grey. I don't know why. I think it was the same reasons. First time I've had a proper kitchen and we are spending alot. I know we will be keeping it for a long time if not for ever and I wanted to be sure. The plans did look gorgeous though, we had loads of good comments. You’ve just got to go with your gut. Good luck!!!

I don't really have any advice but we are in the same boat. Finally managed to save for a new kitchen that will be in the house for at least next 10 years and I really love the look of a navy kitchen. I am having the same worry that I will love it for the next 2 years then go off it. We have had the design competed in a mid/dark grey but haven't committed to it yet so would love to hear what others think.

Sounds lovely. I don't know if it's a fad, ice never seen a navy kitchen but it's a fairly neutral colour so I don't think you'd grow to hate it - not like lime green or pink or something extreme

I put in a navy kitchen 6 months ago and love it.

We got a navy kitchen 25 years ago, with white handles, worktops, appliances. It was really unusual at that time, and looks good in old photos. But it faded in patches, which might not happen with new finishes.
The main issue with a strong colour was it did look dated, but that happens with a lot of furniture.

ExclamationPerfume · 28/06/2020 18:58

They look good if you have a large kitchen. I think they are too dark if you have a small space. I prefer the lighter colours.

CommunistLegoBloc · 28/06/2020 18:59

I think they're nice but it will date your kitchen. Trends are always nice at the time.

UseYourMirrors · 28/06/2020 19:01

They are very now, having taken over from grey or white gloss. But all kitchens date so have what you like. If it's painted you could always redo it in a few years.
A friend has a navy kitchen, oak workshops and an orange splash back and up stand and it looks amazing.

IdblowJonSnow · 28/06/2020 19:03

Most things are a fad arent they. I'd go with it if that's what you love! I love a navy kitchen too.
You can always gauge the approx date of a kitchen. Ours is horrible and I cant stand it but csnt afford to replace it and a few people have said they really like it.
Either way you'll find someone who loves it when it's time to move!

I've seen some gorgeous results from people painting their kitchens navy on Instagram. Best thing about navy is that it goes with tons of colours, so you would have loads of options for decorating and accent items. I would worry about dating though. If you have the budget I'd get the doors in solid wood do you could repaint sometime in the future when fashions change. You can't paint high gloss laminate kitchens.

I've got a navy and white kitchen which is being fitted in two weeks time. Hope it looks good otherwise I've wasted a lot of money!Confused

employeewoes · 28/06/2020 19:28

Navy kitchens are lovely and really 'in' so yes, may date but no more so than most others.

You can always paint it if you hate it in a few years. A paint called frenchic is amazing for painting kitchens and will cost you around £50 to do a medium sized one.

lifestooshort123 · 28/06/2020 20:14

Navy sounds lovely and if you do go off it in a few years could you change the doors and drawer fronts? I've totally gone off the grey everyone has - walls, carpet, sofas, kitchens - our weather is so dismal most of the year without living in a grey home. Navy and white sounds fresh and smart.

Katyy · 28/06/2020 20:22

I’d go with navy if that’s what you really like. Everything dates anyway. I had a new kitchen last year it’s called Winchester blue but it’s a greyish duck egg looks different depending on the light. I’ve got grey tiles and worktop it looks smart.
