If you have identical twins what's different about them?

Just curious really.

DTs are 6 months, MCDA twins

T1 has a squoshoer face and has a slightly darker white complexion

T1 is generally clongier and needier

T1 has a more squished face. I think he'll be cute to t2s handsome.

T1 has worse reflux and allergies

One is usually larger & bossier. Otherwise they are hugely alike in my experience, and can delight in this on occasion. I am related to a few sets of ID twins.

My cousin has fraternal twins and those boys are truly very different from each other. Much more so than the ID twins in our family.

GreenTulips · 28/06/2020 01:06

Depends how they are raised

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/06/2020 01:15

There have been a number of sets of identical twins in my family and in my experience, there are always subtle differences and I'vealways been able to tell them apart.

As you say, when they are babies it's small things such as having chubbier cheeks or a slightly different smile or slightly longer hair etc. As they get older there tends to be different behaviours so you immediately know that T1 wouldn't do that in that way. In every set I know, one twin is slightly "softer" in terms of personality and seems to have different need to be the center of attention. One set I know used to complement each others interests perfectly, one year for christmas, one wanted a small snooker table as he wanted to be a player and be world champion, the other wanted a set of white gloves as he wanted to be the man that cleaned the balls and put them back on the table Grin

Twins are still two separate people Confused

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/06/2020 01:51

Nobody is saying they are not separate people but they are identical so it's interesting to note that they don't look exactly the same or act similarly as babies, obviously nurture might differ as they get older and personality gets shaped by different experiences and physical difference can also be caused by encogrc

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/06/2020 01:52

Sorry but post while trying to fix typo,. But you get the idea Grin

calmbeforethestormm · 28/06/2020 02:20

My identical twin boys are 10 weeks old and I can tell them apart from the beginning. There's always slight differences even though they are identical. My twin 2 is abit chubbier but twin 1 is catching up now so they look same at first glance. Also their eyes and face shape is very slightly different. I think if I wasn't their mother I wouldn't have noticed. My husband and other people still can't tell them apart.

itstrue · 28/06/2020 02:40

My ID's are 13. They are quite different personalities. One is far more impulsive while the other has always thought about situations before reacting. To me they have different face shapes but others can't see it. Their voices are quite different. One is slightly taller (at the moment anyway). They have a mix of similar and different interests.

Halfwreckedbykids · 28/06/2020 07:10

One of mine is bigger than the other and wore glasses.
At 10 they both wear glasses now and are the same size. In fact I need to do a double take sometimes. My family have commented how alike they re becoming.
Personality wisev very different. One is relaxed and the other is not uptight exactly but very hard on himself.
They never fight anymore....as kids they did a little but never these days. (Advice...they are individuals so I put them in different classes and that s brought them closer and more independent. They 've their own rooms and different tastes in food clothes etc )
Best of luck...it's such a fab experience having twins.

Mine ID twins are two - they have different head shapes and one has more hair than the other. One has always been a bit heavier from birth, and slightly chunkier. It’s always been very obvious to me who is who from the moment I saw them. Until they have a hat on then I do get mixed up and go by what they’re wearing (secretly I don’t admit I get them mixed up to family/ friends 😄). It always surprises me when people have no clue who is who at all though which does seem to happen fairly often.
And of course their personalities are different although since lockdown they have become even closer and have lots of the same traits.

hellswelshy · 28/06/2020 08:53

My identical twin dd's are pretty identical still, though obviously I can tell the difference as can close family. Friends who don't see them so often struggle! They are very different personality wise, one is more sensitive and chatty, the other shares less about feelings but is witty and sharp. They are becoming closer as they approach their teens, though still bicker daily. They were separated in big school so different classes, which has done them good and given them confidence. It's great having id twins, endlessly fascinating to watch them grow up Smile

PowerslidePanda · 28/06/2020 10:16

Mine are 8 months. Looks wise, T1 has always been slightly smaller and has a round face, while T2's face is long. T1 has a forehead dimple when she smiles. They can each raise one eyebrow independently of the other one, but T1 raises the left and T2 raises the right!

Their little personalities are still emerging, but T1 is a bit clingier and more into cuddles, while T2 is very inquisitive and wants to explore and play.

As someone who doesn't have twins, I have only once struggled to tell apart identical twins that I know well.
At first it's easier when they're together, but as you get to know them there's rarely any doubt.

The pair I struggled with, were so identical that their mum when younger used to deliberately cut their hair at different times so that they always had different length hair. When I knew them (aged 6, I helped at their school when I was 6th form) they had rebelled against that and wanted it done together. But interestingly they had a brother a year older, who also looked identical except a little bigger, so people often thought she'd identical triplets.

We had a pair at secondary school who had to be sat opposite ends of the exam hall to avoid cheating allegations as they sometimes produced work that was word for word the same, I believe they once produced an essay which was almost identical.

However dm always got the non-identical twins in my primary form mixed up. Confused

There's 2 years between my eldest DD and my twins, but I can see this happening when they're bigger - they're the spitting image of each other!

Thank you. Our local school is 1 form entry and they'll def have to share a room but we will def try to give them their own space to as individuals as we can

Mine are 15yr old ID girls. Very little difference between them physically, slightly different face shape and a couple of small birthmarks. They have always matched eachothers weight and height and growth. Teeth erupted in the same order a few days apart. Started periods within a few weeks of eachother. Same size clothes, bra size etc. The main differences now are in personality, in which they are similar but not identical, and choices about looks...hairstyles, clothes etc. Up the age of about 10 even close family couldn’t tell them apart.

Interesting about their teeth - we're not experiencing the same! DT2 has 2 now and DT1 still doesn't have any!

Try not to label them "the cute one" etc. I had identical girls in my class, one was much clever than the other and her parents referred to her constantly as "the clever one". The other one always seemed so sad and when you see them together now, they don't even imeadiately appear identical, the clever one is full of confidence and the other one seems so downtrodden Sad

Planterspots · 28/06/2020 13:37

Yes I agree with @UltimateWedneaday, I think that’s very important. People always ask me ‘oh is he the affectionate one’, ‘I see he’s the sporty one’, ‘he’s the funny one’ etc etc. I never agree even if one is more affectionate etc as I don’t want the other to then think of themself as not affectionate. I tend to say ‘maybe today’, or ‘they both are in their own way’ etc.

Sorry no of course didn't mean I'd call them that, I m rant there's enough difference in their identical faces I think one will look cheeky cute for longer but the other one is obviously still gorgeous. There's 4 years between my sis and I and I still carry the "pretty one/clever one" thing.
