Welsh lockdown question.

I’ve booked a couple of nights in Flintshire for the end of next month. It’s in a cabin on a farm, so self contained and we will cook, rather than go out, other than for walks. I booked it after asking the owner whether she thought it would be appropriate, and she didn’t seem to think there would be any problem.

However, someone mentioned on another thread that they lived in Wales and the rule was that you can’t drive more than 5 miles- is that correct? I’ve googled, but haven’t found anything.

It’s correct at the moment. I should imagine it will change by the time you go though. Wales needs its tourists this summer, just like every other country.

Mumto3thatsme · 27/06/2020 22:42

Yes it’s 5 mile limit here but hopping to be lifted 6th July, and planning for wales to be open to tourists from 13th July

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/06/2020 22:46

I'm in Flintshire! Struggling to think of it as a holiday destination, but that's just because it's home to me.

You'll be fine for travel by the end of next month, I'm sure.

As lockdown has eased here, the guidelines have been we can go out and see a relative or friend in the garden, but no further than 5 miles from home. There was a lot of objection to that, as given how rural some of our areas are, a lot of people live a lot further than five miles just from their nearest neighbour!
First Minister Mark Drakeford has said that as long as the virus remains under control and doesn’t rise from current figures that the stay local restriction may ease from the 6th July.

However with the recent beach brawls, there’s been warnings lockdown will pick up again if these scenes and stupidity continue.

Bargainhuntbore · 27/06/2020 22:52

5 miles is a guide.

daisydalrymple · 27/06/2020 22:54

Follow the Welsh Government guidance here

Jellykat · 27/06/2020 22:59

The 5 miles guidance has made me laugh, it's 15 miles to my nearest supermarket and as much as i don't mind my nearby farmer i wouldn't want to go for a chat in his garden particularly..

But yes OP, you should be fine all being well.. I'm booked to start cleaning a holiday let from mid-July..

Imissmoominmama · 27/06/2020 23:40

Thanks all- I can stop worrying!

@DrMadelineMaxwell- we usually go to West Wales, but it’s too far at the moment. I’ve never visited Flintshire before! Our cabin is at the bottom of Moel Famau, so was hoping for walks and seclusion.

Wow @Imissmoominmama I'm the grand total of 8 miles away from where you are staying.
There are some nice walks there and going up Moel Famau itself is a good walk. Mold is good for shops (usually, barring covid) and has a sat and Wednesday market.

Imissmoominmama · 28/06/2020 18:35

Thanks @DrMadelineMaxwell- we’ll try the Wednesday market for supplies! 😃

ooh, glorious part of the world and also in a suntrap valley! Plenty of geocaches nearby as well to lead you to quieter walks. Enjoy!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/06/2020 21:26

There's a medium sized Tesco, and a B&M for bits and pieces in town too. I like the vibe of Mold on market day, usually.
And my friend runs the little cafe round the corner by the post office - called Spoons and Forks and is nice for takeaway breakfasts and coffees. :)

Chocolategirl19791 · 28/06/2020 21:34

Loggerheads is good for a walk around. I'm actually jealous of you - I grew up literally a few miles away and went to secondary school in Mold.

Off to google log cabins now......

Horsemad · 28/06/2020 21:39

Aww Moel Famau and Mold - happy memories. 🙂

Imissmoominmama · 29/06/2020 00:04

@Chocolategirl19791- it’s called Cargo Cabin- it has a roll top bath outside! (hope Flintshire isn’t full of midges Grin). I found it on Canopy and Stars and booked it for DH as a Father’s Day present (no self interest whatsoever Wink.

Thanks all- I’m getting excited about the change of scenery now! Will definitely call into Spoons and Forks too Smile.

I got some great recommendations on here when I took DH to Llandudno for a weekend once- places to eat that I wouldn’t have found otherwise. It made our trip!

Actually the five mile rule is incorrect for rural locations:
