I am being eaten alive, I swear I have a flashing neon sign above my head saying Snack Bar!

Thinking of forking out on this but there are no reviews, has anyone tried it?

Save me!

jungle formula is the best one I buy mine at savers as cheaper than boots but you cant use it with sun cream but I got no bites at all using it and way back in years when we went to Barbados I got eaten alive

I don't find it really works for me unfortunately. Ideally I'd like one I can take on and off easily which is why I was thinking this.rge scented ones don't seem to be doing much this year. I look like I have the lurgy!

I run in the woods most evenings and also swell horribly from insect bites, not getting bitten is very important to me.

However, because I need to use it daily, I don't like to use anything "nasty". I have discovered the Superdrug children's spray. You need to cover all exposed skin, not just dab a bit here and there but that's the case for all insect repellents. Used properly it really works.

Ginfordinner · 28/06/2020 09:48

Regardless of formulation, be it cream, lotion, gel, roll-on, pump-spray or aerosol, there needs to be complete coverage of all exposed skin. If you miss a bit, the mosquito will find that chink in your armour and bite.

I lifted ^^ this from the article, and basically this is the only way you can prevent the bites.

Wristbands, sonic devces, Avon Skin So Soft, woo preparations etc impy will not work on people who are walking buffets for biting insects.

DH is a midge/mossie magnet, and gets bitten if he leaves so much as a square cm of skin without insect repellent. He also reacts very badly to mosquito bites and often ends up having a course of antibiotics.

@UltimateWednesday DH has to wear insect repellent all the time in this weather and he has reached the ripe old age of 68 without it causing any skin issues. He uses Autan, which has a pleasant smell, contains picaridin rather than DEET, and actually works.

Nospringchickendipper · 28/06/2020 10:14

Do you put it on before or after sunscreen.Im covered in bites at the moment after out walking with DH who didn't get any.

Citronella is the only one I found without DEET that also works.
My problem is midges not mozzies, actually. Midges crawl right into my hair, and would bite me a lot there when I worked in a pine forest. Heavy dousing (including in my hair) & reapply every 3 hrs or so.

For sitting out in the garden or whatever, a thermacell is good. It releases repellent into the air by heating a little pad that's soaked in it, powered by little gas canisters. I definitely notice the difference when I have it on in the garden than when I don't.

UltimateWednesday · 28/06/2020 10:55

Ginfordinner I'm not particularly concerned about skin issues but the cumulative effect of spraying myself with pesticide. Possibly no issue at all, but as I have a citronella based spray that works perfectly well (when used properly) I'll stick with that.

Incognito Spray works better than Jungle Formula for me (and I too am a mosquito magnet)
