If you've managed to tone up flabby, wobbly thighs, how?!

I put on a pair of fairly short shorts yesterday (not hot pants) and quickly changed my mind. I'm fairly slim (5ft6 and size 12) but my thighs are disappointing. I don't feel I have lots of weight to lose but would like to tone up. I think things like this are partially genetic/body type but have any of you managed to make a difference, and how?? Thanks

I'm not a fit gym bunny type but I've been doing Pilates 3 or 4 times a week via Zoom during this lockdown and it definitely tones your thighs, and gives you a firm butt too! I also found Zumba classes was good for legs and a lot of fun, if you enjoy dancing.

Running. I started couch25k 3 years ago and my thighs are very toned.

Well most of them, right at the top need more toning.

I run 3 times a week now, usually 5-8 miles. I was so unfit before I started.

Running, elliptical, bike. Air squats if no equipment.

Anything that works your thighs basically does it.

Weightlifting, squats, lunges, step ups etc

I've noticed that even the daily walks make a difference. I think it's anything you do consistently.

Cycling!

Studycast · 27/06/2020 18:16

Mine aren't great atm but horse-riding definitely helps

Aworldofmyown · 27/06/2020 18:28

Get some resistance bands you can find them really cheap. Then you can use those with squats, leg raises etc just google leg exercises. Do them slow and controlled so you can feel the muscle burn rather than high cardio.

MagisCapulus · 27/06/2020 18:31

I am walking about 10 to 15k a day and that is making a difference without the sweat!

Nosuchluck · 27/06/2020 19:11

Squats

lakeswimmer · 27/06/2020 19:19

I've been doing yoga five times a week during lockdown - more for something to do rather than because I thought it would have an effect on my body but it's really made me much more toned.

I'm a similar size to you and I've been wearing shorts most days since April. I've found myself looking down and thinking "are these my legs?" they look so different Grin

CodenameVillanelle · 27/06/2020 19:22

There are loads of exercises you can do for your thighs but be aware that if there is more fat on them than you would like then you'd need to lose fat for them to get smaller. You can't spot reduce fat by exercising the area.

Butternutsqoosh · 27/06/2020 19:25

Squats lunges and curtsy lunges work wonders!

CatandtheFiddle · 27/06/2020 19:41

Squats. Lots. Do them in sets of 10 - do 50 a day every second day. And lunges.

When you get used to it, do jump squats. Do a squat and as your rise jump straight up. Or jumping lunges.

But make sure you have good form - stick your bum out, keep your chest and head up, keep your weight in your heels, and sink in the hips and knees.

Running will do it as well, but squats are easier.

I have this issue too, Im 5’6” and a size 6-8 but my my legs aren’t overly slim and jiggle, it really gets to me, has anyone successfully toned via cycling? I have an exercise bike, I have asthma so I’m only managing 30-40 mins a day on it right now but I’m hoping to push it up to an hour eventually.
I’ve always read you need to lose weight to help slim everywhere but if I lose much more I’ll be classed as underweight!
Thicker legs are a common trait in my family though so I’m hoping I can just tone them rather than reduce them.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2020 19:46

Running- a lot. My legs are really toned, zero wobble, zero cellulite, tanned, thigh gap, the full works

(Puts the rest of me to shame)

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 27/06/2020 19:48

Squat, with weights if you have them. And cycling, even the small bit I'm doing with the kids has helped.

Immigrantsong · 27/06/2020 19:48

Lift free weights in a sumo squat for inner thighs and normal squat and lunges for the rest.

Hobbes8 · 27/06/2020 19:55

I have reasonably good legs and a big wobbly tummy, so I might not be the best person to advise, but squats and lunges holding weights will strengthen your muscles really quickly. Pilates leg lifts and clam shells are also good. A workout like this would be fab:

Moonshinemisses · 27/06/2020 20:18

Pilates , it's changed my body shape completely

losenotloose · 27/06/2020 20:27

Wow, so many responses! Right, now to actually try some of theseSmile

People who say running
Does that include jogging?
Or does it have to be full pelt running?
And how much a week to make a difference?

doodleygirl · 27/06/2020 20:38

Squats, weights, lunges

Snowcappedmountains · 27/06/2020 21:03

Squats, lunges, running and limiting alcohol if you drink - I found cutting down on alcohol made a huge difference.

SundayReilly · 27/06/2020 21:06

Walk walk walk.
Great for legs and bum.
