we told our dc we wanted to downsize 3 years ago and we were going on the market in jan 2021, so the dc started saving up from their wages. am really proud of them as they have sorted out a flat to share and moving in on tuesday, they are really pumped up about it,
i'll miss the late night gaming, sweaty socks and 'mum, i need the washing machine to do my uniform' etc.

Make sure you empty out their fridge and then demand dinner.

Or wait till their fridge is full and complain that there is no food in

Passport for Isle of Wight now?!

romeolovedjulliet · 27/06/2020 09:46

seen from england it's an old joke, some people still think you need visas and passports to go there it's an faq on 'red funnel' website Grin

Sorry I was replying to 70Isa.

Op you sound great . Can’t believe there are a few snide comments .

70isaLimitNotaTarget can I add turning on all the lights and not turning them off again. Also eating crisps and then either chucking the wrapper on the floor or stuffing it down the side of the sofa.

HUCKMUCK · 27/06/2020 10:23

@ChipotleBlessing

That’s lovely for them. I wonder if you’ll think your new home on the Isle of Wight is worth it when you’re missing popping round to see them?
Blimey, bit harsh.

Families live apart for all sorts of reasons and at all sorts of distances. OP and her DH have brought up 6 kids, they deserve to live where they want to.

Don’t forget to dump all your stuff in a little trail as you enter the house. Bag, shoes, coat.

romeolovedjulliet · 27/06/2020 11:33

all advice greatfully receieved Smile must admit they have been a tidy bunch, all their stuff has stayed in their rooms but when the doors are open eau de la sock wafts out won't miss that, or their work uniforms clogging up the airing cupboard., overflowing recycling bin with fizz bottles, beer cans. unident odours from the rubbish bin etc Grin

@romeolovedjuliet I think it is going to be a great move for you all. You get your adult space back, they make their own space, and you get to see them at 5/6 week intervals. My parents (outside of covid times) visit every 6 weeks or so. It makes the time together so special as it's just enough time to miss them but not too often that I feel like they are invading my house too often. I think it makes us appreciate each other more. Also, my parents get to be the novelty grandparents who never see the bad side of my kids, and my kids just get to enjoy them. My MIL sees her nephew 3 times a week minimum as they live 10 mins away. The novelty has definitely worn off!

SqidgeBum · 27/06/2020 11:39

*her grandson, not her nephew. My DHs nephew.

dontdressme · 27/06/2020 11:45

mud and jumpingon their new sofa ? yep i'm going to do it all !

Along with all the excellent suggestions above, don’t forget to go round for dinner and sit at the table with a long face mumbling that the food is inedible. Then moan, “Why can’t we have something that I like for once?”

For bonus points, raid the fridge beforehand and scoff just one of the key ingredients for that night’s dinner, ideally an unlikely snack and in unbelievable quantities.

romeolovedjulliet · 27/06/2020 11:48

i fully plan on finding the stash of hidden goodies, wrappers and packets of which end up in the fore mentioned rubbish bin Grin
