Upgrading from 'starter' furniture..

When my partner and I first got a place together, we didnt have much money as got cheap furniture (bed, mattress, sofa, wardrobe etc). Now it's a couple of years on and I would really like to start buying some nicer, quality things in the near future, especially as we are going to be buying our first home soon. But I feel bad at the thought of doing so because everything we have still functions, and will do for a while. What do other people do - stick with cheap starter furniture, or get rid and just buy new stuff even when they don't need to?

But the positive of upgrading your stuff is being able to pass good functioning furniture on to others just starting out.

Sell it on gumtree and upgrade (it’s still being used/recycled and you get some money).

I’ve recently got into upcycling old furniture (50’s - 70’s) so probably spending less on pieces now than I did when buying my first house!

Yep. Just sell it on FB Marketplace / gumtree / eBay etc. Or give it away if you feel you can afford to and want to.

Also... have a look in the same places for good quality furniture. I have about £2500 worth of solid oak in my living room that cost me less than £400 and you’d never have a clue it hadn’t been brand new.
