Started a new one.

Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

It's mostly out to sea, now, though I've just texted dh to warn him that another shower has nibbled up and is heading straight for us.

I’ve had a lovely day. Went on a murderous bike trip with dd to a touristy town. We got soaked on the way then sat in the sun eating cake on a bench and had a walk round pushing our bikes. Not too many people because of the weather and omg the toilets were open 🤩

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 27/06/2020 15:55

Why is no one screaming about the fact that unless schools reopen, hundreds of thousands will be forced to resign. We don't all have grandparents willing to help. Yet no one seems to care. Every time I see another workplace getting ready to open up I think 'and what about the workers who are parents'?

My good friend works for a local company who employ about 600. They are going to make 150-200 people redundant in the next month or so 😢

Teateaandmoretea · 27/06/2020 16:01

I think people will be if schools aren’t open in September. Right now I’m immediately more 😱 about wtaf we are going to do with the kids during the summer holidays....

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 16:13

I do wish someone in government was reading this thread.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 27/06/2020 16:16

I wish someone in government gave a stuff about children.

PinkFondantFancy · 27/06/2020 16:21

@professor totally agree. I'd like to think there will be outrage but I'm worried what will actually happen is that thousands of women will become redundant and unemployed because schools are unreliable and it'll just slide under the radar. I really hope I'm wrong.

Bollss · 27/06/2020 16:32

Us for them have just created an English group. I've joined it just now.

I'm frankly outraged. And tbh we'll be ok in that I've got a brilliant childminder on standby for ft come sept if we need it, but the huge difference is it is not her bloody job to educate my child. And shell likely have all different ages so even if she wanted to she couldn't!

They need to go back ft. There is NO alternative as far as I'm concerned.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 16:33

@PickAChew

I've been watching that one pass us, from the comfort of my kitchen. We got one solitary faint rumble. The sun is shining and dh has dragged Ds2 out for a quick walk. They both need it.

Hate to say it, but I have banana bread on the oven.

Shock Traitor!

I think schools will go back in September.

It's going to be an interesting summer (in the sense of "may you live in interesting times" not in the sense of actually intetesting).

9 million people on furlough, redundancies being announced, little childcare, reduced opportunities for holidays.

There are a lot of people with nothing to do, who have had nothing much to do for months, facing huge uncertainty.

It's pretty much a recipe for civil unrest. I think the government were very foolish to let lockdown drift on into the summer like this.

glotterbug · 27/06/2020 16:33

Totally agree @MrsArchchancellorRidcully . Schools need to be the first and ,toppriority. I'm in wales and I swear if they don't go back full time in September I will loose not only the plot but any job I can get after already being made redundant due to f&*#¥€g COVID!!!

glotterbug · 27/06/2020 16:34

Is it too early to crack open the wine???

Not a good day at Glotterbug Towers

Teateaandmoretea · 27/06/2020 16:37

It's pretty much a recipe for civil unrest.

Totally agree. People thought that if they stayed at home for a few weeks covid would go away and they could crack on as usual. That was clearly never the case and it is starting to sink in.

I think schools will go back in September.

Me too, which is why right now I cba to get wound up about it. However if they don’t then to be clear I will be one of the rioters.

Willitneverend · 27/06/2020 16:44

You ok @glotterbug?

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 16:44

PinkFondantFancy · 27/06/2020 16:47

Me three. Want to talk about it @glotterbug?

glotterbug · 27/06/2020 16:47

@Willitneverend thanks, I'm ok, just hit a wall again today I think. Worried if I will get another job, kids education etc. Think I need to sleep for about a week.

glotterbug · 27/06/2020 16:49

Thanks @Pinkfondantfancy. I swear these threads have been keeping me going!

Willitneverend · 27/06/2020 16:51

@glotterbug hopefully you'll feel better soon. I've got a couple of things in the diary now and it's made all the difference.

The council have taken at least some of the hateful signs off the playparks here and replaced them with signs that say the play parks are open.

DominaShantotto · 27/06/2020 16:53

DH gets quite worried when I'm threatening to chain myself to something or other to get the schools reopened.

It's fucking muggy as hell here again today - we have an air con unit on order due for delivery (can't stand trying to sleep through the neighbour's garden noise and the heat for yet another summer) but it's en-route via Hermes so god knows if it'll actually turn up or not. I'm inclined to think not since it's late for the Hermes round around here.

I have hairdressers in the diary for 4th July and I cannot wait! Last few weeks I've really felt awful about how shit my hair has got.

Ibake · 27/06/2020 16:57

Afternoon all. I have sprawled on the sofa all afternoon feeling a little, ahem, delicate and have been watching Glastonbury videos. With the rain outside it's definitely been a great way to spend a few hours. DH came in to complain about the noise but got told to sod off.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 16:58

Apparently Cherie Blair gets it, as would likely SamCam. Carrie’s far too young and in the throngs of romance to get it. But Cherie’s opinion should carry weight.

mightbealittlebitmad · 27/06/2020 17:00

I don't even need schools for childcare but I will be furious if they don't go back. I didn't choose to homeschool for good reason.

There is a storm brewing and not in the literal sense. Our lives are being put on hold, we are dancing around each other, facing the very real threat of unemployment with no way of releasing our frustrations. If there is no riots over this I'll be amazed although I'm surprised there hasn't been already.

Keeping social distancing long term isn't practical and now we are allowed inside there isn't a hope in hell of people social distancing "properly" I don't want to cuddle my friends or sit right next to them but I will be making them drinks or giving them my phone to show them a picture or something. God knows how shops are going to deal with the queues in the winter.

Cattermole · 27/06/2020 17:01

I have some goodwill left to spare this afternoon (despite all fears to the contrary earlier) so pop the wine open @glotterbug and make it a big one - and enjoy the bejabbers out of it, you deserve the bugger.
I've just made some coleslaw and mum and I went to the Co-op: relevant to earlier in the thread, mum flirted with the chap stacking shelves
And he touched her arm
It was just like real life....

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 17:02

The thought of being young and being in the throes of romance to Boris just made me heave a little. He's like a slug with insufficient pigmentation issues.

What do we call that in the natural world? Oh yes, leucism. a leucistic sweaty slug.
