Mini Boden Alternative - suggestions please

I have a 10yo DD and 8yo DS who have mainly been dressed in Mini Boden since toddlers.

But now either the DCs are too old for the designs or Boden have changed because all of a sudden there doesn’t seem to be the same choice and it’s all too babyish.

Where else can I get kids clothes of the same quality?

I’ve bought them stuff this year from Fat Face which although nice they don’t have a huge range and the clothes definitely won’t last like the Boden stuff.

Suggestions gratefully received.

(To preempt the Boden haters I think they are very good value for money when on discount and they last for years on multiple children. I just sold DS’ summer wardrobe for £60 - he had been wearing it all for 3 years and still looked great)

I love Boden for DS too. But he is 12yo now and although he is happy to still wear it, I think I need to help him branch out so that he doesn’t look too young compared to his peers. John Lewis own brand?

I've seen Lands end recommended for older kids but haven't looked as my two are younger.

Uniqlo are great quality and have started to do a children’s line.

The fat face kids stuff I've had has all lasted well ie survived 2 boys. Landsend is good and we've had a lot of their tie dye in various sizes.

Same here! It’s a shame they stopped the Johnnie B line, which was less babyish. DS is nearly 12, but wears 13-14 clothes for length. We get most of his stuff from

Gap
H&M
Tu at Sainsbury’s
And a bit of plainer stuff from Boden still

Following as I am running into the same problem with DCs 12, 10 and 8. Agree that Mini Boden (bought with a 25 percent discount) is fabulous value for money when you consider longevity and resale value (although I think quality isn't what it was a few years ago). I guess what I'm looking for is really solid basics in a good range of colours made with quality fabrics. No logos, oversexualised shit. Put like that it hardly sounds like a big ask, but the usual alternatives such as JL fall short on range and availability, and H&m, Zara etc fall short on quality and too much crap to sort through to find the good basics.

TU from Sainsbury’s is good most seasons? Lasts well too

ChaoticCatling · 25/06/2020 13:07

Fatface has lasted well here. I buy shirts online as there is more choice of plain colourful ones. DS is 14 and doesn't like the ones with pictures.

KenAdams · 25/06/2020 13:10

We only tend to buy from Fat Face, Zara, John Lewis and Sainsburys now.

What I really liked about Boden is how I could pick out a capsule wardrobe for the kids and however they put it together it would all go.

Fat Face this season has been awesome for that. I makes me smile when I realise DS’ T-shirt is the exact same colour as DD’s shorts and DD’s T-shirt is the same colour as the detail on DS’ short.

I realise this means I’m very sad and have colour related issues 😂

@BikeRunSki you’re right about Johnnie B... not least because my favourite jacket came from that line

I ageee that some of the more fashions stuff in H&M isn’t up to much quality wise, but the LOGG and Conscious Basics lines are pretty good.

Also, Mountain Warehouse, and some stuff from Next. But I agree, dressing a preteen boy who is not into football can be challenging. Ditto his sister who don’t wear skirts, dresses, leggings or anything skinny on her legs!

Land’s End is just too wide for my dc and DS to now our of FatFace sizes.

reluctantbrit · 25/06/2020 14:00

Have you looked at Joules? I also liked FatFace.

DD is out of Mini Boden since years and i loved the quality but the designs were far too babyish in the end.

I found the age 10-12 hard, lots of children ranges are too babyish or too teenager. I think that was the time she started wearing mainly jeggings, T-Shirts and hoodies. She is now finally in small adult and there is more choice again.

I gave up looking at just one shop, she had clothes from Next, Debenhams, bits of M&S with H&M thrown in. It really depended what she needed and where to get it.

She also very much started having her very own ideas, shopping for her didn’t work or it wouldn’t be worn.

BikeRunSki · 25/06/2020 17:09

@MsSlightyConfused - and my favourite sandals! Their shoe size 8 was bigger than in the adult range, where the 8 is too small for me!
