Jobs for teens

It looks like my DS15's paper round has been given to someone else now that the shop has re-opened.

He seems a bit gutted, and I'm trying to be positive and give him ideas for other jobs. However, I didn't realise there were quite so many restrictions on teenage jobs in term of working hours. (Can only work 2 hours on a Sunday!)

Anyway, just wondering what jobs other peoples teens do, and what the routines are, etc. Are employers flexible to allow them to continue with sports? Do most places only really take them on at 16, etc?

I know every employer will be different, but I'm just trying to get an idea of others experiences.

Thanks.

Dd had a job dishwashing in a cafe at 14.
Later she worked in a takeaway at 17.

@IHaveBrilloHair Were those just small, independent employers? Did they stick to the limited hours?

My hairdressers used to have a young lad washing hair. He was 14 when he started. He did a few hours on a Saturday and when he turned 16 he did all day Saturday and their late night opening.

He was great and worked really hard

Yes, tingle, and they did.

I think you're being a little naive if you think anyone who takes on a young employee is going to work around their hobbies. There are more candidates than jobs, they take the most committed and ime don't want the hassle of under 16s when there are so many over 16s looking for work.

Also ime anyone under 16 has got their job through family or friends

I’m hoping for my teen DS to get something but not holding out a lot of hope in current climate, what he is doing are some online courses in customer service and have signed him up for a Covid one for retail, thinking they will look good on his CV for a possible Christmas job if nothing turns up this summer. Reed have lots of online courses at knockdown prices in anything actually.
