How to find value of tea set?

DPIL have been sorting out their kitchen & given us what they don't want. They don't mind if we keep it, sell it or chuck it. They are in a good position financially & we are struggling so they like to think they can help us out. So I have kept the bits that we like & are useful to us & sold a few other bits, mainly to friends so far.

I have now come across a pretty tea set, which is not our style at all, we have kept another one instead. It is Royal Albert bone China & on googling I think it might be worth more than just the usual few quid I would ask. How do I find out the value/where to sell it? Thanks!

Look through china section on ebay. Should give you a rough idea of the going price for a set in the pattern you have.

Local auction houses would have valuation days in pre Covid times - maybe worth seeing what your local ones are doing now?

We have taken that kind of stuff to Tennants at Leyburn for example

I had a brief look on Ebay but only 1 single item from USA on there currently, with no bids. So I don't know if that is a true reflection of the price. Also, it seems the line is discontinued, if that makes any difference.

There's an action house in London, criterion auctioneers, that I found helpful before

GreyishDays · 24/06/2020 16:00

Have you looked at completed listings on eBay?

MyGirlDaisy · 24/06/2020 16:04

How about looking on Chinasearch - they buy and sell China and it may give you an idea of the pattern name and price etc.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 24/06/2020 16:06

Auction houses round here are doing online so might be able to value for you. Bone China tea sets don't tend to be worth a lot though. Which is sad as they are lovely.

confusedofengland · 24/06/2020 16:08

Have had a brief look at completed Ebay listings now & there was a trio (plate, cup, saucer) for more than I would have sold the whole set for! Not a lot of money to some but a lot to us. Don't know if it actually sold though Hmm

Will have a look at other websites mentioned, thanks.

Nobody wants them these days.
I have one but we display ours, as Romany.

If you look on the UK ebay site it'll give you an idea of what they sell for over here. Royal Albert is pretty popular on the UK ebay site. I'd search for sold items though - some of the buy it now prices have been on ebay for ages because the sellers are asking for too much.

ozymandiusking · 24/06/2020 16:10

Hi can you tell us the name of the pattern please?

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 16:11

They sell between £80/ £100 for the full set on ebay. Think that might be dinner set though, not tea.

mrsswayze · 24/06/2020 16:11

Vintage tea sets are very popular on eBay just now. Nic and Andrea hill have a you tube Chanel and sell a lot of China maybe worth a watch

isseywith4vampirecats · 24/06/2020 16:12

the one you have found on completed listings if the amount is in green then that is what it sold at if its black it didn't sell, some royal albert keeps its price country roses is the most well known one and has kept its price as people buy it a few pieces at a time and add to their sets,

confusedofengland · 24/06/2020 16:47

They are pattern 4364.

That sounds familiar - moss roses in green or pink?

We sold a set for £180 last year. You can still buy replacements for much of it directly from them, about £10 a piece.

confusedofengland · 24/06/2020 17:39

Yes, I think that's it Curious! Gosh, that is even more than I thought! Will double check with DPIL that they are happy for it to be sold.
